DELETE.
Another key is the DEL key . DEL is an
abbreviation of Delete. We will discu s s this
key a gain wh en we talk about preparing pap er
t a pes. For now you can consider this a " do
no thing " ke y si nce it neither causes pri nting
nor s pac in g .

The l ast r ema ining righthand control k ey is
the SH I FT k ey that performs just li ke the
shift key on most typ~writers.
LE FT S IDE KEYS .
vERTI CAL TAB.
The keys marked VT and FF are for the
Vertical Tab and For~ Feed. When the VT key
is Dressed, a VT character is generate d . This
character will not ca use your Printer t o do
anythin g unl ess it has the Vertical Tab , Form
Fee d opt i on i ns t a lled. Reg ardless o f whe t he r
or not th i s o ption is installed, t he VT
si gnal is ge nerated and will be sent t o a ny
r emot e pri nter to which your Printer may be
c o nn ected .
Ir the VTFF option is installed in yo ur
Printer, pressing the VT key will advance th e
paper to the next vertical tab. The vertical
tabs are
progra~med
into your Printer by
punching holes into a disk . This disk fits
into the VTFF device which is (if installed)
inside the Print e r ca se.
FORM FEED.
The FF key also ge n e r ates the FF character
re g ardless of whethe r or not t he VTFF option
is installed in yo u r Printer. The FF key will
have no effect on your Printer if the option
is not installe d .
If the VT FF option is inst a lled, pressing the
FF key will automatic a lly advance your paper
t o the be g inning of the next form (page).
HORIZONTAL TAB .
Tne HT key is the Horizontal Tab key.
Pressing this key ad vances your Printer to
the next horizontal tab. If your Printer is
connected to a remote teleprinter having an
HT option, pres sin g the HT key will advance
both printers to the next horizontal tab.

CONTROL .
The CTL key is the Con tr o l ke y . The operation
of this key is simil a r to th a t of a SHIFT key
since it modifies characters sent by pre s sing
other keys . The CTL key is always used w 'ith
another key . For instance, hold down th e CTL
key and then press the G key. You sh oul d ge t
a high pitched beep lasting ab out on e ha l f
second. You mig ht notice tha t the f ront of
the G key is marked BEL ( BE LL). The Contro l
keys are marked with j rown letters on a whit e
background.
