The SERVICING NOTES contains important information for servicing. Be sure to read this section before repairing the unit.
PRECAUTIONS FOR HANDLING THE LASER DIODE
Optical output and other characteristics of the laser diode are criti-
cally subject to the environment temperature. Optical output of the
OPTIMA-751X2 is stabilized by preadjusting the provided optical
output trimmer at the factory and the external APC circuit, accord-
ingly the trimmer should not be turned.
If the optical output is excessive more than 0.4 mW through the
objective lens by turning the trimmer, the life of laser diode may
deteriorate.
Due to its structure and operating principles, a laser diode responses
sharply to fl uctuation (including its surge current) of the power sup-
ply or to a highspeed pulse caused by such as statics electricity. Such
laser diode is provided with a protective circuit to prevent the diode
from damage caused by a surge current the laser diode, but such
protective circuit can not cope with all the disturbances including
large noise or power supply fl uctuation.
Accordingly, care must be taken to provide protect measure as well
as of its operating conditions and environment for noise, a spike
current or voltage fl uctuations introduced by static electricity, the
OPTIMA-751X2 should be handled by a person whose body is
grounded, and measuring instruments and jigs should have suffi cient
anti-static measures including grounding. In particular, lead wires of
the laser diode must be prevented from touching charged objects.
Although the laser beam is invisible to the naked eye, the beam is
injury to the eye.
Absolutely DO NOT look into the laser beam with naked eyes.
When observing the laser beam, use an infrared viewer or an ITV
camera.
HANDLING THE ACTUATOR
Since the actuator of the OPTIMA-751X2 used a powerful magnet,
the pick-up characteristics may be subjected by a magnetic object
brought into close proximity.
On the bottom of the gap between the actuator cover and the objec-
tive lens, an objective lens driving magnet is installed, prevent the
gap from the catching foreign objects.
CLEANING THE LENS
When the objective lens is fouled, the characteristics of the OPTI-
MA-751X2 may be degraded (reduction of light output, for exam-
ple). In such a case, clean the lens with a lint free cotton stick or
the like soaked in the PLASTIC LENS CLEANING SOLUTION in
such a manner that the delicate wires supporting the lens (bobbin)
are not disturbed.
Commercially available lens cleaners are not advisable for this pur-
pose.

SERVICING NOTES

UNLEADED SOLDER
Boards requiring use of unleaded solder are printed with the lead-
free mark (LF) indicating the solder contains no lead.
(Caution: Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with
: LEAD FREE MARK
Unleaded solder has the following characteristics.
• Unleaded solder melts at a temperature about 40 °C higher than
ordinary solder.
Ordinary soldering irons can be used but the iron tip has to be
applied to the solder joint for a slightly longer time.
Soldering irons using a temperature regulator should be set to
about 350 °C.
Caution: The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if the

Unleaded solder is more viscous (sticky, less prone to fl ow) than
ordinary solder so use caution not to let solder bridges occur
such as on IC pins, etc.
• Usable with ordinary solder
It is best to use only unleaded solder but unleaded solder may
also be added to ordinary solder.
REPLACING THE LITHIUM BATTERY (CR2025) OF THE
REMOTE COMMANDER

When the battery becomes weak, the range
of the remote commander becomes shorter.
CAUTION
Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly
replaced. Replace only with the same or
equivalent type.

Keep the lithium battery out of the reach of
children. Should the battery be swallowed,
immediately consult a doctor.
