2. Remove screws and lock washers attaching
bearing outer and inner retainer plates to com-
mutator end frame. Remove cotter pin, nut, and
washer from commutator end of armature shaft.
3. Remove cap screws, washers, and lock
clips attaching commutator end frame to field
frame. If necessary, tap end frame with soft ham-
mer to loosen, then remove end frame assembly.
Remove ball bearing from end frame. Remove
brushes from brush holders.
4. Remove cap screws, washers, and lock
clips attaching drive end frame to field frame.
If necessary, tap end frame with soft hammer to
loosen, then remove end frame and armature.
5. Clamp armature in vise, then remove nut
and washer from drive end of armature shaft. Re-
move baffle, drive gear, and oil slinger, then lift
end frame assembly from armature shaft.
6. Remove cap screws and lock washers at-
taching bearing retainer plate to drive end frame;
then remove retainer plate and seal assembly.
Remove roller bearing and outer race assembly
from drive end frame.
7. It is not necessary to remove pole shoes
and field coils from field frame except as indi-
cated later under "Inspection, Tests, and Repair."
INSPECTION, TESTS, AND REPAIR
All parts except field coils and armature should
be washed in cleaning solvent. Field coils and
armature should be wiped clean with a dry rag.
Tests described below may be made on a conven-
tional growler equipped with a test lamp and prods.
