The VideoMovie's Full Range AF system can offer
continuous shooting ability from close-up to infinity.
The rectangular focus area detects focus. (No actual
indication provided in the viewfinder.)
Notes:
aif the lens is smeared with stains or blurred with
condensation, accurate focusing is not possible.
Keep them clean. If they become dirty, wipe with a
piece of soft cloth. When condensation occurs, dry
them by wiping with a soft cloth or wait for conditions
in which they become dry.
= Correct
focus may
not be obtained
in these
situations on the left. In such case manual focusing
should be performed to obtain proper focus.

This VideoMovie's focus tock function is especially
useful in the following situations:
w When things pass between your subject and the
VideoMovie, make sure to engage the focus lock
function, to lock your subject in focus before
recording.
@ If you want your main subject to appear in a corner
of the screen, you should first center it at the desired
distance, then use the auto focus made for focusing,
engage the focus lack function, and move the
VideoMovie till the subject is where you want it.
To tock the focus:
Press FOCUS LOCK/MAN.
-~ The focus lock indication (»e<) appears in the
viewlinder.
To release the focus lock mode (To engage the
Auto Focus mode):
Press FOCUS LOCK/MAN. At the moment when the
button is released, the focus lock mode is canceled.
Note:
The Focus Lock function is not available when
PROGRAM
AE is set to "AUTO MODE
LOCK".

Notes:
™ Focusing may become unstable during the zooming-
in operation. In this case, first zoom in in the
Recording Standby mode then, after using the
manual focusing or the Focus Lock function to hold
the focus fixed, zoom in or out in the Record mode.
@ When shooting low-contrast subjects in the Zoom-in
mode, the Videomovie automatically zooms out with
the low contrast indicator blinking and focus being
performed.
® Zooming operation is not available while FOCUS
LOCK/MAN. is pressed.

For manual focus operation, proceed as follows:
ER Press the power zoom buttons ("T" and "W") along
with FOCUS LOCK/MAN.
= To adjust the focus to a farther subject:
Press T. The Manual Focus indications

appear, and <blinks.
= To adjust the focus to a closer subject:
Press W. The Manual Focus indications
(4 »&) appear, and & blinks.
™ When the focus level cannot be adjusted any
farther or closer, the indicator { a ) or the indicator
( .&) will blink.
Hi When finished with focus adjustment, release the
power zoom buttons.
— The Manual Focus indications change to the
FOCUS
LOCK
indication
(me«),
and
the
adjusted focus is locked in.
= To release the Manual Focus mode (to engage the
Auto Focus mode):
Press FOCUS LOCK/MAN. At the moment when the
button is released, the Manual
Focus mode
is
canceled.
~~ FOCUS LOCK indication (»e@) disappears.
Notes:
= When you use the Manual Focus mode, be sure to
focus the fens in the maximum telephoto position. If
you focus in on a cerlain subject in the wide-angle
position,
sharply-focused
images
cannot
be
obtained when zoomed up because the depth- of-
field is reduced at longer focal tengths.
= When
focusing
manually,
make
neccessary
viewfinder adjustments (c>" P. 16), then focus in.
= Manual Focus operation is not available when
PROGRAM
AE is set to "AUTO MODE
LOCK".

Pressing the power zoom buttons ("T" and "W") will
vary the focal length of the lens.
Procedure
= Pressing T : Zoom in on the image (bring it nearer).
® Pressing W: Zoom out.
@ Two zooming speeds are available. For slow-speed,
press lightly. For regular-speed, press firmly.
