SECTION 4. TROUBLESHOOTING
GENERAL INFORMATION
The malfunction of an electrical circuit cannot
easily be diagnosed unless you first under-
stand how it functions when operating
normally.
COMPONENTS
There are two basic categories for electrical
components, switches and loads.
A switch controls the current path to a load
component. Door swtiches, water level
switches and relays are examples of switching
components.
An electrical load uses electricity to perform
some function. Motors convert electricity to
magnetic fields and then to mechanical mo-
tion. Solenoids use magnetic fields to push or
pull. Lamps convert electricity to light.
MECHANICAL TROUBLESHOOTING
Door will not open:
• Check for jammed mechanism.
• Check door release solenoid.
The schematic wiring diagram is followed
much like a road map. The lines represent
the wiring connections between components.
Connections in the wiring are indicated by a
small dot. If the lines cross, but no dot is
present at the intersection, there is no con-
nection. As much as possible, switches are
shown in their normal or most common
configuration.
Use CAUTION when working with live
circuits.
EXTREME CAUTION should be taken when
performing voltage checks due to danger of
possible electrical shock.
Resistance or continuity testing is done with
the product disconnected from power.
Failure to do so can result in damage to your
meter.
• Refer to Section 2. Service Procedures covering "Door Lock."
Door will not unlock at end of cycle:
" Remove the door lock cover to check for bind in door lock mechanism.
• If the door is locked then the bridge rectifier circuit is working. (Check the door release
solenoid circuit.)
Door does not lock:
• Remove front panel and check lock mechanism for mechanical bind.
• Check the door lock solenoid coil continuity.
• Check for DC voltage at the bridge rectifier assembly.
Motor runs at wash speed in one direction only:
.. Check for burned or welded contacts on the contactor.
• Check for coil voltage on contactor.
CAUTION
Except as necessary to perform a particular step in servicing a product, the
electrical power supply should ALWAYS be disconnected.
