Choice of Three Metering Areas
Many cameras feat ure interchangeable
focusing screens. The new F-1, how-
ever, is the on ly one that also offers a
choice of metering sensit ivity patterns,
just by chan g ing the sc reen.
There are three different patterns: cen-
ter-weig hted average, select ive-area
and spot metering. Div iding the 13 dif-
. fere nt focus ing sc reens ava ilab le into
th ree groups yields a total of 32 focus -
ing screen-metering system combina-
tions. The ent ire series of screens is
available for center-weigh ted average
meteri ng and se lective-area metering .
Six sc reens - only those effect ive for
this specia lized metering method
are avai lab le for spot meterin g.
Center-we ighted average meter ing is
idea l fo r AE photograp hy, pa rtic ula rly
with wide-a ngle lenses. The degree of
cente r-we ighting in the horizontal di-
rection is si gnifican tl y increased to
minim ize exposure difference between
vert ica l and horizontal pos itions.
Se lective-area me teri ng is also eff ec-
tive for AE photog rap hy and stopped-
down AE in c lose- up app lications
where precise exposu re of a specific
area of the image is necessa ry. Ap -
prox imate ly 12% of the view finder area
is metered. The 3% spot metering pat-
tern is diffic ul t to use, ye t yields spec -
tacu lar resu lts. Ideal fo r situa tions
whe re there is extreme contrast be-
twee n subject and backg round.
New screens inc lude two Bright Laser-
Maites which are app rox. 20%
bri ghter than the laser matte and the
Cross Sp lit whi ch facili tates both
ho ri zo ntal and ve rt ica l fo rmat foc using.

Laser Matte with Grid
Reference lines aid in situations where
latera l and vertical composition accu racy is
important, e.g., copy work and architectural
photog raphy. Especia ll y suited for the TS
35mm (Tilt and Shift) Lens.

Standard in the new F- 1. Mu ltip urpose type
fo r all lenses, enab les focusi ng w ith the
split-image, microprism, or matte field de-
pend ing on the subject or your ow n pre-
fe rence.

Microprism/Fast Lenses
An exce llent choice when us ing fast lenses
(f/ 1.2 to f/2.8) . Affords easy, extreme ly ac-
curate focus ing.

Microprism/Slow Lenses
Similar to F, but for slower maxim um aper-
tures of f/ 3.5 to f/ 5.6. Does not incur prism
darkening.
~ Laser Matte with Scale
For hig h-magn ification applications such as
close-up photography and photomacro-
graphy. With fine matte center and 1 mm
gradations on ve rtical /horizontal lines and
around edges.

Laser Matte with Double Cross-Hair
Reticle
We ll suited fo r app lications req uiring high
magnifications such as photomicrography
and astrophotography. To focus move your
eye from left to right. If the cross-hairs stay
in the same position on the subject, the
subject is in focu s.

Bright Laser Matte/Short Lenses
Toge ther with the Bright Laser Matte K, the
brig htest sc ree ns of the system. Espec ially
effective wi th 50mm to 200mm lenses and
dark subjects or when using small working
apertures.

Bright Laser Matte/Long Lenses
Provides the same unobstructed viewing as
the Brigh t Laser Matte J. Suitab le for
300mm te lephoto lenses or longer. Also ef-
fective for photomacrography.

Cross Split
Divides the subject both horizontally and
vertically. Subject is in focus when the four
qua rte rs merge to become one unbroken
image. App licable to all lenses.
~ A/B Size Laser Matte
The sc reen for those in the publishing and
advertising fields. Engraved crosses in co r-
ners facilitate cropping .
