General Information
The BEA 108 is a four-channel equalizer with amplifier
and fader for 4 loudspeakers and can be connected to all
car radios without integrated booster/ amplifier (see dia-
gram, page 13).
The amplifier is switched on and off automatically with the
car radio.
The equalizer and the level displays can be switched off.
When operated in conjunction with ARI units with automa-
tic volume increase for traffic announcements, we recom-
mend that the announcement volume on the car radio be
reduced.
Otherwise, owing to the high amplification, traffic announ-
cements are played at above-average volume with the
result that there is the danger of the driver being startled
while at the wheel.

Adjusting the equalizer
®@ Set all frequency control to the centre position (0 dB).
@ Press button J} to latch it.
The equalizer is switched on. The indicators in the frequency
controls light up.
Since the 7 slide controls for the frequencies 60, 150, 400, 1000,
2500, 6300 and 16000 Hz are in the centre position, there is not
yet any change in sound.
You now have the opportunity by raising or lowering the indivi-
dual frequencies to match the sound - experts say "frequency
response" - of your car stereo system to the acoustic conditions
in your car and to your personal taste.
Each of the 7 frequencies can be raised by + 12 dB (correspon-
ding to a factor of 4) or can be reduced by - 12 dB by operating
the corresponding control.
To find the optimum setting for your purpose, proceed as jollows
{all frequency controls in the centre position):
@ Adjust the control for 60 Hz until the bass reproduction ap-
pears correct to you.
@ Improve bass reproduction by adjusting the controls for 150
Hz and 400 Hz.
@ Set optimum treble reproduction using the control for
16000 Hz.
@ Improve reproduction by adjusting the control for 6300 Hz.
@ Check whether a further improvement in sound can be obtai-
ned by adjusting the controls for 2500 Hz and 1000 Hz.
@ Repeat the above 5 settings and so improve the overall acou-
stic impression.
When you have the right setting, you can perceive the conside-
rable Meregment in tone quality by switching the equalizer on
and off.
