• If the unit does not seem to be working right, consult your KENWOOD dealer. The XM160-2 amplifier is a Class D design. It should be understood that ALL Class D amplifiers, regardless of brand, cause a reduction in FM reception. The XM160-2 features a proprietary circuit design that KENWOOD believes gives the BEST FM reception available for any Class D Amplifier designed for a motorcycle.

Now is a good time to “clean up” and secure any wiring inside or your fairing using supplied zip ties. For the best possible FM reception, DO NOT attach any of the amplifier’s wiring to any factory antenna wires! If you are installing a second XM160-2 amplifier, please go to Section 3 of this manual.

Section 2 - Installation Instructions to KENWOOD CA-LID98 Lids for 1998-2013 Bikes On the speaker itself, you will see a “lip” that goes around the perimeter of the speaker’s steel frame. The side of the gasket with the groove on the outside will “mate” to the lip around the speaker.

• Do not switch ON power until wiring is completed. KENWOOD XM65F and XM65R speakers will work best when powered by an amplifier. They have an impedance of 2 ohm and will cause damage if wired directly to the built-in power of a non-2 ohm stable radio.

3 factory screws on the inside of the fairing. In the KENWOOD grille, you will see two holes and one “keyhole” where the screws go through and into the fairing. The keyhole in the KENWOOD grille needs to be oriented so it is closest to the radio on each side for proper fitment.

WARNING The factory saddlebag hinges limit the size of the speaker magnet that can be used and allow the lids to open and close without issue. KENWOOD assumes ZERO RESPONSIBILITY for fitment issues, or water leaks when any speaker brand other than KENWOOD is used.
Section 1 - Getting Started - Cont. 3. Locate the wire harness and take the 48” section with the silicone grommet in line and install it into the saddle bag, making sure the 2 speaker “spades” are on the inside of the bag and the single 2-pin connector is on the outside of the bag.
