In this condition, observe the following: Never cover your computer or AC adaptor with any object.

  • Page 20: Using Your Tablet For The First Time

    Start screen You can go back to the Start screen from an app or the desktop by the following ways: Press the Windows button ( ) on the tablet. Tap the Start charm. Tap the Start button ( ) in the lower-left corner of the screen (only on Desktop).
  • Page 21 DC power and reduces the voltage supplied to this tablet. Always use the TOSHIBA AC adaptor that was included with your tablet, or use AC adaptors specified by TOSHIBA to avoid any risk of fire or other damage to the tablet. Use of an incompatible AC adaptor could cause fire or damage to the tablet possibly resulting in serious injury.

Plug the other smaller connector of the Micro-USB cable into the Micro-USB port on your tablet.

Initial setup The Windows Startup Screen will be the first screen displayed when you turn on the power. Follow the on-screen instructions on each screen in order to properly install the operating system.

    Search This Charm allows you to search your tablet (apps, settings and files), the web, or within an app. Share This Charm allows you to share items (links, photos, and more). Start This Charm takes you to the Start screen or, if already on the Start screen, returns you to your last app.
  • Page 25 Never turn off the power, disconnect an external storage device or remove storage media during data read/write. Doing so can cause data loss. In any emergency case, you can also press and hold Power button for about 10 seconds to force power off. Tap the Settings charm.
  • Page 26 Before entering Sleep Mode, be sure to save your data. Do not switch to Sleep Mode while transferring data to external media, such as USB devices, memory media or other external memory devices, as data will be lost. The tablet will automatically go into Sleep Mode according to the settings in the Power Options (to access it, tap Control Panel under Windows System in Apps view, and then tap System and Security ->...
  • Page 27 Save your data. While entering Hibernation Mode, the tablet saves the contents of memory to the internal storage. However, for safety sake, it is best to save your data manually. Data will be lost if you disconnect the AC adaptor before the save is completed.

    Memory media slot This slot lets you insert a microSD™/SDHC™/ SDXC™ Card which enables you to transfer data from devices, such as digital camera, onto your tablet. Refer to the Memory media section for details. Keep foreign metal objects, such as screws, staples and paper clips, out of the Memory media slot.

    Chapter 4 Operating Basics This chapter describes the basic operations of your tablet and highlights the precautions that should be taken when using it. Using the Touch Screen You can use your finger to manipulate icons, buttons, menu items, the on- screen keyboard, and other items on the touch screen.

    You can change the Real Time Clock settings in the BIOS setup utility. Please refer to TOSHIBA Setup Utility section for further information. Care and use of the battery pack This section provides the important safety precautions in order to handle your battery pack properly.
  • Page 36 Charge the battery pack only in an ambient temperature between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, the electrolyte solution might leak, battery pack performance might deteriorate and the battery life might be shortened. Charging the battery When the power in the battery pack becomes low, the tablet will enable Hibernation Mode so that you do not lose any data, and automatically turn itself off.

  • Page 40 Formatting a memory media card Memory media cards are sold already formatted in conformity to specific standards. If you reformat a memory card, be sure to reformat it with a device such as digital camera or digital audio player that uses the memory cards, not with the format command provided within Windows.

    Insert the memory media into the memory media slot on the side of the tablet. Figure 4-2 Inserting memory media 1. Memory media slot 2. Memory media Make sure the memory media is oriented properly before you insert it. If you insert the media in wrong direction, you may not be able to remove it.

    To connect a USB device, plug the device’s connector into the Micro-USB port on your tablet. Make sure the connector is properly aligned with the socket. Do not try to force the connection, doing so can damage the connecting pins. As the port operation of all USB devices has not been confirmed, some USB devices may not function properly.
