    Compatible Devices. SlingPlayer Mobile for Smartphone is compatible with most smartphones running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0. See “Supported Smartphones” on page 39.     Getting to Know SlingPlayer Mobile SlingStream SlingStream is the proprietary streaming technology of Sling Media. Slingbox uses SlingStream to stream content to the SlingPlayer. The SlingStream addresses varying network conditions in order to optimize your video playback experience. SlingStream automatically provides the best possible video experience at any given time, although you can also manually change the settings on the SlingPlayer options window and the Slingbox properties window.

    SlingStream is optimizing and adjusting the stream. See “Optimization Settings” on page 25 and “Control Mode” on page 21. 1. SlingPlayer Mobile requires minimal network speeds in the range of 120 Kbps to function optimally. Contact your service provider for information on network speeds.

    Slingbox Directory The Slingbox Directory lists all Slingbox units you have configured. Your Slingbox is automatically added to your directory when you install SlingPlayer Mobile using the Automatic Installer (PC-based). Note To copy your Slingbox Directory during SlingPlayer Mobile installation, the PC from where you are installing SlingPlayer Mobile must have an installed copy of SlingPlayer for PC.

    See “Control Mode” on page 21 for additional options. Changing Channels in Numeric Mode By default, the Input Mode on SlingPlayer Mobile is in numeric mode, for ease of changing channels. When you are in this mode, the Input Mode indicates “123”.

    Using SlingPlayer Mobile Using Favorites SlingPlayer Mobile has two sets of eight Favorites. Press # once to access the first Favorites Bar (FAV1), and press # twice to access the second Favorites Bar (FAV2) . To access your Favorites: 1. Press # (<space> on QWERTY keyboards) once to enable the Favorites Mode.

    Volume Control You can change the volume of SlingPlayer Mobile in the following ways: • Use the left/right navigator keys to decrease/increase volume (if you are connected to a coaxial input). • Select Menu > Volume > Up/Down/Mute. • Use the smartphone’s volume control to increase/decrease volume.

    (if video screen changes orientation). Normal Player Mode This is the default viewing method on SlingPlayer Mobile. To change back to normal viewing from another mode: 1. Select Menu > Player Mode > Normal. Slide Show Player Mode In low bandwidth environments, you can watch TV in Slide Show mode.

    Control Mode Control Mode SlingPlayer Mobile is equipped with an advanced feature called the Control Mode. The SlingStream technology gives you rapid response when you are changing channels, controlling your cable/ satellite box, or fast-forwarding your DVR to stop more accurately at the desired scene. Don't forget to turn off Control Mode after you are done, as playback in this mode maybe occasionally jittery.

    Selecting the home button or any other button on your smartphone does not close SlingPlayer Mobile. You have to follow these steps to close SlingPlayer Mobile properly. This is especially important before attempting an upgrade or uninstallation of SlingPlayer Mobile.

    Favorites. This saves you time and effort in reaching them. SlingPlayer Mobile allows you to have a separate group of Favorites for every input/device. This means, for your DVD, you can have a set of Favorites and another set for your cable TV. SlingPlayer Mobile knows what you are watching and seamlessly integrates the Favorites of that device.

    The Player options screen appears. 3. Select either of the buffer settings: • Automatic. SlingPlayer Mobile along with SlingStream decides the buffer capacity (recommended setting). • Manual. Manually input the buffer setting. You also need to enter a value between 1 and 8 seconds.

Select the one that suits your viewing requirement. • Low Action: Best used when the content you are watching has little action but many details.

    Audio Options SlingPlayer Mobile has four audio streaming options. You can listen in Mono Low, Mono High, Stereo Low, or Stereo High. The required bandwidth is least for Mono Low and most for Stereo High. You should change these settings when you experience low network connections.

    Audio/Video Hiccups While Switching Inputs The audio or video stream may stutter while switching between different inputs on your Slingbox. This is most likely to occur when you are using SlingPlayer Mobile in a low bandwidth environment. SlingPlayer Mobile User Guide...

    Once the audio and video stream has been fully optimized, the quality will improve. To get the best performance out of your SlingPlayer Mobile for the SmartPhone, make sure you have a high-speed internet connection, like 3G, or use Wi-Fi / USB-networking for streaming.

    You need to be connected to the network to access Slingbox. This version of SlingPlayer Mobile requires Slingbox firmware v1.0.80. See “Upgrading Slingbox Firmware” on page 37 for more information. Also, you must be on the same network as your Slingbox to update the firmware.

    A: Appendix Upgrading Slingbox Firmware From time to time, there are new firmware updates available for your Slingbox. You will be automatically prompted. You can also check for updates manually.     Appendix Slingbox Finder ID The Slingbox Finder ID is an alpha-numeric combination that uniquely identifies your Slingbox. This ID is presented when you first install SlingPlayer for PC. If you install SlingPlayer on another computer, the Finder ID is what you use to access your home Slingbox remotely. You can locate your Slingbox Finder ID within SlingPlayer if you did not write it down during the software installation.
