INSTALATION CONSIDERATIONS

NOTE: Always pre-test the detector's Iocafion using the ASC-GBS Glass Break Tester.

  • Do not
    • Mount the detector with obstructions between the glass being protected and!he detector.
    • For maximum false alarm immunity, do not mount the detector closer than 5 ft. (1.5 m) from the glass when mounting on the same sudace as the glass.
    • Mount closer than 2 ft. (0.6 m) to heating or coohng outlets; mount as far away as possible. If drafts from these outlets blow on the detector, select a different location for the detector. Use the environmental test procedure to verify good installation locations.
    • Install on 24-hour protection circuits
  • Remember
    • The best mounting location is within 25 ft. (7.6m) from the glass, in-line with the center of the glass, and on the ceiling or opposite wall of the glass being protected. Do not exceed maximum range.
    • Range will be reduced in areas that are acoustically soft. This may be due to carpeting, drapes, plants, or other sound absoting materials. The ASC.GBS Tester should be used to verify range in all Installations.
    • Glass Break detectors are intended only as perimeter protection devices. They should always be backed up with motion sensors.
    • Glass Break detectors are designed to detect the breakage of framed glass and may not detect such things as bullet holes, spontaneous breakage of glass (with no impact), and removal of glass
  • Maximum Range:
The maximum detection range is 25 H. (7.6 m) from the farthest corner, for glass sizes 12" by 12" (0.3m by 0.3m) and larger.

TESTING

Testing the Location

  • Temporarily palce the detector near the desired mounting location using 2-sided tape.
  • Power the detector using a 9V battery.
  • The detectors's LED should remain off.
  • Activate the detector's test mode by holding a magnet mounted inside the top of the simulator case (or use any contact magnet) to the test point marked "T" on the outside case surface of the ASC25, and ASC25R, or next to the upper right corner of the detector for the ASC25F.
  • The detector's alarm LED will flash for 10 seconds when the test mode is activated.
  • The detector will remain in test mode for 5 minutes.
  • See "T" mark on ASC25& ASC25R case for test activation point.
    Testing - Testing the Location

Note: All testing should be done with the detector's cover in place.

Environmental Test

During the 5 minute test mode, the LED will indicate low or high frequency disturbances by flashing at specific rates. Occasional (random) pulses of the LED are normal. To rule out random pulses affecting this test, observe the LED for the full 5 minutes.

  • Turn on all sources of noise (e.g. forced air blowers, air conditioners, compressor motors, etc.).
  • The LED will flash 5 times per second each time a low frequency disturbance is detected. If the five flashes per second occur more than once every 15 seconds or if the unit alarms, then do not mount in this location.
  • The LED will flash once each time a high frequency disturbance is detected. If any flashes occur more than once every 15 seconds, do not mount in this location.

Remember: If the detector happens to alarm during this test, the alarm relay will activate as well.

Response Test

This test should be performed using the ASC-GBS Glass Break Tester. The ASC-GBS produces a high-frequency tone designed to alarm the unit to further verify proper location.

Remember: The detector must be in the test mode to perform this response test.

Do not point the tester at your ear (or anyone else's). Doint so could damage hearing.

  • Hold the ASC-GBS Tester againt the windows being tested and point it directly at the detector.
  • If windows treatments are installed (curtains or blinds), operate the Tester behind them.
    Testing - Response Test
  • Activate the Tester
    • Setting the tester to automatic mode causes it to activate every 6 seconds. This will allow you to better observe the detector's LED.
    • For large windows, perform this test at different placements along the window.
  • The alarm/test LED and the alarm relay will activate for three seconds if this is an acceptable detector placement.

Note: The low frequency response of the detector can be tested (while still in the test mode) by opening a door about 1 inch and slamming it shut. The detector should indicate an alarm.

  • During the last 10 seconds of the detector's test mode, its LED will pulse. To end before the 5-minute time-out period, momentarily remove power to the detector or re-apply magnet to test point.

MOUNTING AND SET-UP FOR ASC25/ASC25R

Mount the Detector
After verifying an acceptable location, permanently mount the detector.
The ASC25 detector requires 2 mounting screws. Spacing for mounting holes (3,28" center to center) matches those of a sing!e-gang outlet box (not supplied).
The ASC25R detector can be mounted using the one center screw hole.
Removal of the circuit board is not required for mounting of either the ASC25 or ASC25R detector.

MOUNTING AND SET-UP FOR ASC25F

Mount the Detector
The ASC25F is designed to mount of a standard Single-gang electrical box (not supplied), Mount the box before insta(hng the detector.

  • Remove the front cover by inserting a flat-blade screwdriver in the cover latch and prying the cover out and away from the chassis,
    MOUNTING the ASC25F

Recess Mount Ring
The ASC25F may also be recess mounted without the use of a single-gang box by using the supplied recess ring

  • Using the recess mount ring as a template, prepare an opening 1-7/8" wide by 2-3/4" wide in the mounting surface.
  • Route wiring through opening and ring.
  • Place the ring over the opening and bend the support tabs into the opening and around the mounting surface so that the ring fits snug against the wall.
  • Connect wiring as shown below,
  • Mount the detector to the ring using the supplied screws.

WIRING (ALL UNITS)

ONLY APPLY POWER AFTER ALL CONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE AND INSPECTED.

Note: Do not coif excess wire inside the unit,

SELECT LED LATCHING MODE

ON: The LED will latch on when the unit is alarmed and will stay on until it is reset. Momentarily interrupt input power or recycle test mode to reset the LED.
OFF: The LED will turn on only while the unit is in alarm.

Note If the jumper is removed or missing, the LED will default to the OFF position. SET-UP ANO TESTING. Replace the deteclo<s cover, the. apply power.

SET-UP AND TESTING

  • Replace the detector's covoer, then apply power.
  • Re-test the unit with the ASC-GBS Glass Break Tester.

THE LIMITATIONS OF YOUR DEVICE

While this Glass Break Detector is a highly reliable intrusion detection device, it does not offer guaranteed protection againt burglary. Any intrusion detection device is subject to compomise or failure to warn for a variety of reasons. For example:

  • intruders may gain access through unprotected openings or have the technical sophistication to bypass an alarm sensor or disconnect an alarm warning device.
  • This detector cannot operate properly if it is not installed in accordance with the instructions in this installation manual or the control to which it is connected is not operative (beacuse of lack of power, malfunction, etc.)
  • This detector cannot sense intrusion when the attack occurs outside of its specified protection range or if its DC electrical power source is off, missing, dead, or insufficiently filtered.
  • This equipment, like other electrical devices, is subject to component failure. Even though this equipment is designed to last as long as 10 years. the electronic components could fail at any time.

The most common cause of an alarm system not functioning when an intrusion occurs is inadequate maintenance. This device, and the alarm system to wich it is connected, should be tested weekly to make sure all is working properly.
Installing an alarm may make the owner eligible for a lower insurance rate, but an alarm system is not a substitute for insurance. Homeowners, property owners and renters should continue to act prudently in protecting themselves and continue to insure their lives and property.
We continue to develop new and improved protection devices. Users of alarm systems owe it to themselves and their Ioved ones to learn about these developments.
