• Unplug the TV from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system during a lightning storm or when left unattended and unused for long periods of time. This will pre- vent damage to the unit due to lightning and power-line surges.

Familiarizing Yourself with the TV Front Panel Buttons The buttons on the front panel control your TV’ s basic features, including the on-screen menu. To use the more advanced features, you must use the remote control. MENU Press to bring up the main menu.
Used to connect the audio signals from a camcorder or a video game. MONITOR OUT Passes the signal being viewed on the television to another component (for example, to a recoding VCR.) VHF/UHF Connect to an antenna or cable TV system.

Separate VHF and UHF Antennas If you have two separate antennas for your TV (one VHF and one UHF), you must combine the two antenna signals before connecting the antennas to the TV. This procedure requires a an optional combiner-adaptor (available at most electronics stores).

N S TA L L AT I O N Installing Batteries in the Remote Control Remove the battery compartment cover from the back of the remote. Insert fresh batteries. Make sure that the polarities (+ and -) are aligned correctly. Replace the cover.

VCR or Laserdisc player. SAT•CABLE Puts the remote in SAT•CABLE mode. AUDIO Puts the remote in Audio mode. TV Turns on the TV and puts the remote in TV mode. Also displays channel information. REW, PLAY, FF, REC, STOP, PAUSE If programmed, provides transport control for some remote-controllable VCRs, Laserdisc play- ers, tape decks, and CD players.
TV/receiver button in SAT•CABLE mode. CLEAR Removes any menu or display from the screen and returns you to TV viewing. With RCA, GE and PROSCAN VCRs, this button also clears items from the VCR clock and timer programs. MENU•PROG Brings up the Main menu and selects highlighted items.
Programming your Universal Remote The universal remote can be programmed to control most brands of remote controllable VCRs, satellite receivers, Laserdisc players and cable boxes. If you have an RCA, GE, or PROSCAN component, you probably don’t need to program it at all.
Programming the Remote to Control an RCA Audio Device: Your remote controls only RCA audio equipment such as an audio receiver or amplifier— it does not control other brands of audio equipment. Also, the remote may need to be pro- grammed for your equipment.

MENU•PROG. The message “Plug & Play” is dis- played. On-screen menus disappear from the screen after about thirty seconds. You can also use the MENU, CHANNEL, and VOLUME buttons on the control panel of the TV to make selections.

Selecting the Video Signal-source Before your television can begin memorizing the available channels, you must specify the type of signal source that is connected to the TV (i.e., an antenna or a cable system). Press MENU•PROG to display the menu.
“Channel.” Press to access the Channel sub-menu. Press to select “Auto program”. Press The TV will begin memorizing all of the available channels. MENU After all the available channels are stored, the Auto program menu reappears. Press MENU•PROG twice to exit.

Choose Natural to optimize the picture settings for an ideally lit viewing environment. • Choose Mild (“Mild Contrast”) when viewing the TV in low light, or when playing video games. • Choose Custom if you want to adjust the settings accordings to personal preference (see “Customizing the Picture, page 4.9).

E AT U R E S Digital Noise Reduction If the broadcast signal received by your TV is weak, you can activate the Digital Noise Reduction feature to help reduce any static and ghosting that may appear on the screen.

E AT U R E S Viewing Closed Captions Your TV decodes and displays the closed captions that are broadcast with certain TV shows. These captions are usually subtitles for the hearing impaired or foreign-language translations. Most VCRs record the closed caption signal from television programs, so home-recorded video tapes should also provide closed captions.

Using Your TV in Another Country If you plan to take your TV with you to a foreign country, please be aware of the dif- ferent television systems that are in use around the world.
