How to Extract USBSCAN.SYS from your
Windows 98/98SE/98oem Installer CD
Applies to:
Coolpix 990/880-Windows 98/98Second Edition
Our support staff indicates that a number of users fail to install the USBSCAN.SYS which is a Windows Support File for USB products. This
file is contained in all versions of the Windows 98 installer CD.
At times the hardware install wizard does not indicate the correct location of this file and after a number of attempts to install this file has
failed, you may assume it is not required.
The USBSCAN.SYS file
is required
for the correct operation of NikonView3.
Here is a step by step method for obtaining the USBSCAN.SYS file from your Windows Installer CD. Please note that on some systems, your
vendor may
not
provide a Windows Installer CD. If this is the case, you can sometimes find the Windows Installer located within your
Windows system directory in a folder called "Options".
If you do not have either a Windows 98/98SE installer CD or the Options folder, please contact your system supplier for assistance.
If you do not have a Windows Installer CD, check your system for an Options folder. When the source directory is requested, browse to the
Options folder to proceed.
In order to begin, please place your Windows installer CD in your CD ROM drive.
From the
Start
Menu Select
Run....
In the Run Dialog type:
MSINFO32
This will present the Microsoft System Information application with the dialog shown below ( Figure 1)
