DESCRIPTION
A compatible, external power sensor is required for making accurate, absolute R F power or tuned R F
level measurements. The Measuring Receiver can be used with the following sensor configurations:
.A
power sensor selected from the HP 8480 series sensors.
. A sensor module (such as the HP 11722A) that contains a power sensor, an R F switch, and an R F
coaxial cable. The Measuring Receiver controls the R F switch in the sensor module to automatically
switch the R F input signal between the R F INPUT of the Measuring Receiver and the power sensor
as measurements require.
.A sensor module, built by the user, that includes a power sensor (from the HP 8480 series sensors),
an RF cable, and an R F switch (such as the HP 33311 series or the H P 8761A). The rear-panel

outputs enable the Measuring Receiver
to

the RF input signal between the RF input of the Measuring Receiver and the power sensor as
measurements require.

PROCEDURE
The following procedure provides a few guidelines for setting
u p
and operating a remotely controlled
sensor module.
Connect the R F switch, power sensor, R F cable, and Measuring Receiver as shown in the
BLOCK
DIAGRAM.
Do
not connect a sensor module (such as the HP
1
1722A) to the
SENSOR
input if the
rear-panel remote control switches are to be used with a user-built sensor module. The control lines
are in parallel, and the internal switch drive circuits cannot drive both.
The remote outputs are capable
of
driving both 5V and 12V to 15V switch solenoids. The solenoids
should be
of
a latching type, but they need not have automatic drive disconnect. Examples of
compatible RF switches are the HP333 1 IB, Option 01 1 (5V solenoid) or the HP 8761A (12V to
15V solenoid).
Proceed with selected measurements. This user-built module will enable the Measuring Receiver to
automatically switch between its inputs as measurements require.
