Contact Your Cable Service Provider Before you begin installing your SB4000 internal cable modem, take a few minutes to: Record the media access control (MAC) address and serial numbers from the bar code label marked HFC MAC ID on the cable modem, or on the box it came in.

    Introduction Get Started Home Print Exit Installation Diagnostics Installation You can have high speed Internet access in three easy steps: Install the cable modem in your PC. Load the PCI driver from the CD-ROM. Activate your modem. This is easier than most people think. Removing the cover from your PC is simple. Your PC cover may just snap off, or you may need to remove some screws.

    PC with your hand before unwrapping the cable modem. Do not unpack your SB4000 until you are ready to install it. Once it is unpacked, place it on its antistatic bag on a clean, level work area.
  • Page 13 PC’s back panel. Replace the PC cover and any screws you removed. Connect the coaxial cable to the SB4000 connector on the back panel of the PC and the other end to the cable wall outlet.

    Installation Diagnostics Windows 2000 Turn on your PC. Your PC automatically detects the SB4000 and the Add New Hardware Wizard window opens. Under some configurations, the Add New hardware Wizard may identify the new hardware as a Motorola PCI Cable Modem SURFboard SB4000.
  • Page 22 5. If the File Needed window is displayed, select Browse and locate the NET4000.sys file on the SB4000 CD-ROM. Double-click on NET4000.sys and click Open. When the File Needed window is displayed again, click OK. Click Finish and the installation is complete.
  • Page 23 Type winipcfg.exe. A window similar to the example is displayed. Click OK, and the IP Configuration window displays. Select your adapter name, Motorola PCI Cable Modem SB4000. Click Renew. If you don’t receive an IP address, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
