To change modes when you are entering text,
press Options > Entry Mode:

to change between capitalization
options (no capitals, first letter in a
sentence capitalized, all capitals).
Press a key repeatedly to cycle through

editing a contact).
Enter numbers only.
Shortcut: In other modes, press and
hold a number key to enter its number.
