The Temperature Sensor monitors the engine temperature at all times. When selected by remote control this sensor will activate the ASTROSTART™ system when the temperature falls below a certain temperature. The engine will automatically start and run for ten (10) minutes. This feature is used to maintain engine temperature in times of extreme cold.
Connect the BLK/GRN wire to one (1) of the ignition coils. • Program your ASTROSTART™ system to the setting corresponding with the number of cylinders that each ignition coil services. eg. A three coil, six cylinder vehicle would be set for two (2) cylinders.
STEP 6 CLUTCH SWITCH OVERRIDING CLUTCH SWITCH OVERRIDING In most manual shift transmission vehicle’s, the clutch must be held down to start the vehicle. Your remote starter must simulate this operation. It is necessary to add a relay that shorts the clutch contacts only when starting by remote.

DISABLE SWITCH MOUNTING AND LOCATION HARNESS #401 HARNESS #401 • The ASTROSTART™ disable switch is used to interrupt or disable system operation. Mount this switch where it is easily accessible to the drivers seat. • Connect it to the SND-1 module’s connector “B”.
STEP 12 SND-1 MODULE INSTALLATION SND-1 MODULE INSTALLATION HAND BRAKE HAND BRAKE This connection monitors the hand brake status. It disables the system when the hand brake is not applied or released. Most vehicle’s hand brake monitoring circuits use negative switching. (ground when hand brake is applied). To avoid any ground feed-back from the vehicle’s circuitry, you must add a diode in the circuit following the diagram below.
SENSOR INSTALLATION SENSOR INSTALLATION RECEIVER INSTALLATION RECEIVER INSTALLATION HARNESS “R” ON THE SND-1 MODULE Ø Disassemble the center console surrounding the transmission shifter, and the hand brake lever. Ø Locate two suitable location on the floor, close to the transmission shifter, where it will be possible to fasten the two receivers (fig.
Ø Once you have determined the location where all the components will be installed, you may continue with assembling the fixture. Ø Refer to the following diagram to assemble the two receivers on their fixture. Ø Then fasten both receivers at the base of the transmission shifter on the pre-selected location, making sure that visual contact with the transmitters will be possible once installed.

STEP 13 SYSTEM PROGRAMMING SYSTEM PROGRAMMING The following section outlines "Basic Starter Installation Programming". All ASTROSTART™ models require certain vehicle, and system configuration parameters to be entered prior to testing the system. PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES: • Turn to the " Installer Programming" section on page 42.
STEP 14 MAIN INSTALLATION TEST MAIN INSTALLATION TEST Installation of the main functions of the ASTROSTART™ sould be completed at this point and must be tested to ensure that all safety overrides are properly functioning. • Close the hood and fully open one window.
TEST FOR THIS CONDITION IN THE FOLLOWING MANNER: • Start the engine using the ignition key. • Turn off the key to stop the engine, remove key. • Exit the vehicle, lock the doors and arm the factory alarm. • Wait at least one minute.
ENGINE CRANKS FOR A FULL CYCLE, BUT STARTER GRINDS AFTER ENGINE STARTS: • Tach setting may be programmed for too many cylinders. • Tach wire 253 is damaged shorted, cut or not soldered. • Reduce the starter cut-off speed by programming “START LOW” • • RS-504 5,13 START LOW I1 A,C DIGITAL DASH DOES NOT ILLUMINATE: •...
The L.E.D. on the main switch indicate a special code when the engine failed to start by remote. Codes are represented by sequence of double blinks, see listing bellow. On the RS-504 you must send the command 4A to display codes on the L.E.D. or 4B to display codes on the tail lights.

This enables the system to detect several possible intrusion scenarios (glass breaking, collision, etc...). This feature can be switched on or off by remote control. The RS-504 shock sensor works in two ways: • Mild impact will cause the vehicle horn to sound a warning tone.
INTERNAL WARNING BUZZER INTERNAL WARNING BUZZER The warning buzzer is activated during programming ("BUZZER ON/OFF", Installer Programming Mode). A repeating beep is heard up to six feet away from your vehicle when the alarm system is armed. This feature is designed to warn individuals that your vehicle is protected by an alarm system.
It can also be used to acknowledge the receipt of certain commands. This interface can be made at the horn button or at the horn itself. The ASTROSTART™ system activates an internal relay connected to harness #255.
Connect BLK/GRN wire to the high temperature or low oil pressure warning indicator. This input allows the ASTROSTART™ to shut the engine off if an abnormal condition is detected. Note: The BLK/GRN wire can be programmed to accept a positive (+) or negative (-) input ("INSTALLER PROGRAMMING MODE").
DOOR LOCK INTERFACE OPTIONAL ACCESSORY, PART #310-062-501 OPTIONAL ACCESSORY, PART #310-062-501 The ASTROSTART™ DL-3 door Lock Driver Modules connect to the auxiliary port #001. Some vehicles require two separate wires of the same types. When testing the circuits at the steering collumn you will find two wires that indicates voltage at the same times in the: starting, accessories or run cycle. As the ASTROSTART™ RS-504 system only has one dedicated output for this function you must interface the second circuit independently.
DUAL PARKING LIGHT CIRCUITS DUAL PARKING LIGHT CIRCUITS Some vehicles use a separate right and left parking light circuit. This is common in European vehicles such as: BMW, Mercedes, VW, etc...). These circuits must be kept isolated. This is accomplished by using isolation diodes.
• Wait for at least one minute • Start the engine by remote control • Unlock the door by remote control ( this applies only to door lock interface via ASTROSTART™, if the doors are controlled by the Factory/Aftermarket alarm system disregard this step).
Complete instructions are included with the DL-3 module. part # 310-062-501 REARMING PROCEDURE Note: If you want your ASTROSTART™ system to also arm the factory system you will need to install a DL-3 module. The DL-3 module installation manual includes complete instruction for arming and disarming factory alarm systems.
There are two main problems that can occur when an aftermarket alarm equipped vehicle is started via ASTROSTART™. • When your ASTROSTART™ system activates the vehicles Ignition circuit the alarm may perceive it as some one attempting to hot wire the electrical system. This will cause the alarm system to trigger.
This factory feature is overridden once a door is opened. The ASTROSTART™ system may cause the radio to operate for 10 minutes after shutting the engine off. Use harness #254 and program for the "RAP" (Installer Programming mode) mode to turn the interior lights on after the engine is shut off.
CODE LEARNING OF ADDITIONAL TRANSMITTER CODE LEARNING OF ADDITIONAL TRANSMITTER Up to three additional transmitters can be added to the ASTROSTART™ system, in addition to the original transmitter. The security code for the supplied transmitter has already been programmed into the control module in all four memory locations.
CARBURATOR TYPES CARBURATOR TYPES While the ASTROSTART™ is primarily designed for use with fuel injected vehicles, it can be programmed to simulate throttle pulses for use with carburated vehicles. (a solenoid must be installed on the throttled linkage). CARB UNIV - this setting presses the accelerator pedal once prior to cranking and then during cranking until the engine starts.
Programming the RS-504 is accomplished by entering commands via the remote control. The ASTROSTART™ RS-504 is highly flexible and can be programmed in a wide variety of configurations, so the programming looks far more difficult than it really is. It is important to carefully read and understand the steps to initiating the programming before attempting to program a vehicle.
ENTERING THE INSTALLER PROGRAMMING MODE: ENTERING THE INSTALLER PROGRAMMING MODE: Only qualifed installers should enter this mode. Settings are to be chosen at the time of installation according to the vehicle’s specifications (carburator mode, alarm override mode, tach signal programming, ect.) Since only a few parameters will need to be changed from the factory preset program, the installer is not required to enter programming commands in any specific order.
RS-504 PROGRAMMING RS-504 PROGRAMMING DEFINITION: LED: Numeral codes generated by a series of single and double blinks on the main switch L.E.D. The first digit is represented by the single blink sequence and the second digit is represented by the double blinks sequence.
