    Before Using the Machine How to Navigate Menus on the LCD You can display the menu screen or setting screen and use various functions on the LCD. This section describes about the basic operation of the menu screen and buttons on the Operation Panel.

    Display the Print Instruction Using the Navigation Menu When you do not know how to use the print function for the frequent use or how to refill paper, you can easily get the explanation from the navigation menu. Press the NAVI button. The NAVI screen is displayed.

  • Page 18 Prepare to load paper. (1) Open the Sheet Feeder Cover and pull out the Paper Support. Put your finger in the rounded indent of the Paper Support and pull it out until it stops. (2) Open the Front Tray. Put your finger in the indent on the top of the Front Tray and open it gently.

Important The Access lamp flashes while the machine is reading or writing data from/to the memory card. Removing the memory card or turning off the machine while the Access lamp is flashing may damage the data saved on the memory card.

    Routine Maintenance Replacing an Ink Tank This section explains the way to confirm the ink status and the procedure to replace ink tanks. When ink runs out or other errors occur, an error message is displayed on the LCD to inform you of the error.

    Important Handling Ink To maintain optimal printing quality, we recommend the use of specified Canon brand ink tanks. Refilling ink is not recommended. Once you remove an ink tank, replace it immediately. Do not leave the machine with ink tanks removed.

Make sure that the machine is turned on, open the Front Tray, and extend the Output Paper Support. Load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray or Front Tray.

    Examining the Nozzle Check Pattern Examine the nozzle check pattern, and perform cleaning if necessary. Note If the ink level is low, the nozzle check pattern is not printed correctly.     Print Head Cleaning Clean the Print Head if lines are missing or if white streaks appear in the printed nozzle check pattern. Cleaning unclogs the nozzles and restores the print head condition. Note that cleaning the Print Head causes used ink to be absorbed in the ink absorber. Cleaning the Print Head consumes ink, so perform Print Head Cleaning only when necessary.

    Aligning the Print Head If ruled lines are printed misaligned or print results are otherwise unsatisfactory, adjust the print head position. Make sure that the machine is turned on, open the Front Tray, and extend the Output Paper Support. Load two sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray or Front Tray. Press the Paper Feed Switch to select the paper source where you have loaded paper.

    Print Results Not Satisfactory If the print result is not satisfactory such as white streaks, misaligned lines, and uneven colors, confirm the paper and print quality settings first. Check 1: Do the page size and type settings match the size and type of the loaded paper? When these settings are incorrect, you cannot obtain a proper print result.

    Action When printing data with high color saturation such as photographs or images in deep color, we recommend using Photo Paper Pro or other Canon specialty paper.
