Glyph Manager and RAID Support
READ THIS FIRST!
Changing the drive mode with the Glyph Manager software utility will require you to re-format the GT
062, and result in erasing all of the current data on the drive. Make sure you backup all data before
doing so!
The GT 062 uses two internal hard disk drives, and includes the option to combine them as one single drive or two individual
drives. Through the use of the Glyph Manager software utility, it supports four drive modes: JBOD, Spanning, RAID 1
(mirroring) and RAID 0 (striping). For most users, the RAID 0 mode will be ideal for its higher performance, but the other
drive modes have their own advantages, depending upon the application.
In JBOD mode (standard storage lingo for Just a Bunch of Disks), the two internal drives will show to the computer
as two independent drives. They will need to be formatted to be seen as volumes by the computer. Each drive will be
seen with half the capacity of the whole; for instance a 1TB GT 062 will be seen as two 500GB. This mode can be
thought of as simply having two separate disks inside the GT 062. If the drives were ever to be separated in the
future, they would still work independently from each other. This mode is useful when you would like to have data
on one drive and make a copy of it on the other. It is also more secure because the failure of one drive will not affect
the health of the other.
In Spanning mode, the two drives are seen as one large drive and data is written sequentially across them. When the
first drive fills to the limit, data is then written to the second drive. This mode is useful for applications requiring

Q: I’m still running Mac OS 9 or Win/ME. Can I still use the GT 062? Yes. You can connect either the FireWire 400 port or the USB port on the drive to your OS 9 or Win/ME machine. You cannot run Glyph Manager to change configuration or monitor drive status, however the GT 062 will run in the last drive mode that it was set to.
