DANGER
If the coin-cell battery is incorrectly replaced, there is danger of an explosion. The coin-cell battery
contains a small amount of harmful substance. To avoid possible injury:
• Replace only with a battery of the type recommended by Lenovo.
• Keep the battery away from fire.
• Do not expose it to excessive heat.
• Do not expose it to water or rain.
• Do not short-circuit it.
• Do not drop, crush, puncture the battery, or make it subject to strong forces. Battery abuse or
mishandling can cause the battery to overheat, which can cause gasses or flame to "vent" from
the battery or coin-cell battery.
To replace the coin-cell battery, do the following:
1. Turn off the computer and disconnect it from ac power and all cables.
2. Close the computer display and turn the computer over.
3. Remove the removable battery. See "Replacing the removable battery" on page 101.
4. Remove the bottom cover. See "Replacing the bottom cover" on page 104.
5. Detach the connector

6. Reinstall the bottom cover.
7. Reinstall the removable battery.
8. Turn the computer over. Connect the ac power adapter and all cables to the computer.
After you replace the coin-cell battery, reset the system date and time in the ThinkPad Setup program. See
"Date/Time menu" on page 68.
