Replacing Friction Wheel Rubber
The rubber on the friction wheel is subject to wear and
should be checked after 25 hours of operation, and
periodically thereafter. Replace the friction wheel rubber
if any signs of wear or cracking are found.
WARNING: Run the engine com-
pletely dry of gasoline before tipping
snowthrower.
1 . Tip the snow thrower up and forward, so that it rests
on the housing. See Figure 6-5.
2. Remove self-tapping screws from the frame cover
underneath the snow thrower.
3. Using a 3/4" wrench to hold the gear shaft, remove
the hex bolt and cupped washer on the left end of
gear shaft. See Figures 6-9 and 6-10.
4. Move the gear shaft to the right and slide the friction
wheel assembly from the shaft. See Figure 6-10.
5. Remove the four screws from the friction wheel
assembly. See Figure 6-11.
6. Remove the friction wheel rubber from between the
friction wheel plates.
7. Reassemble new friction wheel rubber to the friction
wheel plates and hub, tightening the four screws in
rotation and with equal force (between 6 and 9 ft. lbs.).
8. Position the friction wheel assembly up onto the pin of
the shift rod assembly, and slide the shaft through the
assembly. See Figure 6-10. Reassemble in reverse
order.
NOTE: Make certain that the chain engages both the
large and the small sprocket.
NOTE: If the sprocket fell from the snow thrower while
removing the hex shaft, place the sprocket on the hex
shaft. Position the hex hub of the sprocket toward the
friction wheel when sliding the sprocket on to the hex
shaft.
NOTE: Repeat the drive control adjustment on page 13
before operating the snowthrower.
