1. 10M Ethernet Control LAN

In the TOSDIC-CIE DS system Ethernet Control LAN, you can use repeaters (electric repeaters or optical
repeaters) to add segments and expand the maximum transmission distance. This allows you to use an optical
fiber cable for outdoor wiring or to extend a coaxial cable segment.
Since OIS-DS and SVR-DS are on 10BASE-T, hubs are used to connect them to PCS-DS on 10BASE5 (hubs
are a kind of repeater).
Basically, the Ethernet Control LAN complies with the IEEE802.3 standard, so addition of segments and
connection to other IEEE802.3 standard LAN comply with the IEEE802.3 standard.

1.1 System Configuration

This section describes cautions for expanding transmission lines and an example of the Ethernet system
configuration.
Constraints for expanding transmission lines
(1) The maximum of 5 segments and 4 repeaters in the transmission line between two stations.
(2) Of the 5 segments, the maximum of 3 segments may be cable segments, and the remaining segments must
be link segments.
(3) A 10BASE5 cable (yellow) is used in the link segment which consists of electric repeaters. The
maximum length is 500m.
(4) The maximum link length between optical repeaters is 1000m If there is one set of optical fiber link
segments, the optical fiber segment over 500m is counted as two links.
If there are two sets of optical fiber link segments, the total link length must not exceed the maximum link
length.
(5) The transceivers of the repeaters are counted in the maximum transceiver units (100 units) connected to
one segment.
The repeaters may be installed anywhere on the segment where a transceiver can be connected. More
than one repeaters may be connected.
The maximum number of transceiver units is 100 on one 10BASE5 coaxial cable segment. A two-port
multiport transceiver is counted as 2 units.
