Internet connections
Changing the network your phone connects to
If you're using a dual-mode card, you can choose not to use global mode on HTC J
and set it to connect to just one type of network. This prevents HTC J to constantly
search for other networks to connect to, and saves battery power.
1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap
2. Tap Mobile network > Preferred Network, and then select CDMA Mode or GSM /
UMTS Mode.
3. If you selected GSM / UMTS Mode, you can choose to connect to:
GSM / UMTS
Dual
GSM only
UMTS only
Adding a new access point
Before you add another data connection, have the access point name and settings
from your mobile operator or their partner service provider ready (including
username and password if required).
1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap
2. Tap Mobile network, and then tap CDMA Options or GSM/UMTS Options.
3. Tap Access Point Names.
4. On the APNs screen, tap
5. On the Edit access point screen, enter the APN settings. Tap an APN setting
item to edit it.
6. Tap
> Save.
Enabling data roaming
Connect to your mobile operator's partner networks and access data services when
you're out of your mobile operator's coverage area.
Using data services while roaming may be costly. Check with your mobile operator
for data roaming rates before you use data roaming.
1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap
2. Tap Mobile network, and then select the Data roaming option.
Select the Data roaming sound option if you'd like HTC J to play a sound so you'll
know when it's connecting to a roaming network.
HTC J searches for both 2G and 3G networks, and connects to
the one that's available.
HTC J connects only to a 2G (GPRS or EDGE) network. Using a
slower data connection helps to save battery power, but it may
incur extra data fees.
HTC J connects only to a 3G network.
