Symptom
Motor will not start.
Motor runs too hot.
Band Saw vibrates
excessively.
Cuts not square.
Possible Cause
No incoming power.
Blown electrical panel fuses or tripped
circuit breakers.
Defective motor, switch, power cable, or
plug.
Excessive blade tension.
Drive belt tension too high.
Blade too coarse for material (especially
with tubular stock).
Blade too fine for material (especially with
heavier, soft material).
Insufficient gear lubrication.
Base on uneven surface.
Saw blade has cracks.
Too heavy a cut.
Feed rate too fast.
Incorrect blade toothing in relation to
workpiece.
Blade is worn, cutting crooked.
Misadjusted or worn blade guides.
Blade guide assemblies too far apart.
Workpiece incorrectly positioned in vise.
Correction*
Check plug connection.
Replace fuses, or reset breakers.
Qualified electrician/service personnel
should inspect these items.
Reduce tension.
Reduce belt tension.
Use blade with finer tooth pitch.
Use blade with coarser tooth pitch.
Make sure gearbox is filled to sight glass.
Adjust base for even support.
Replace blade immediately.
Reduce feed rate and blade speed.
Decrease feed rate.
Check a machinist's handbook for
recommended blade type.
Replace blade.
Inspect guide assemblies. Adjust or
replace items if needed.
Adjust left guide arm as close to
workpiece as possible.
Check positioning and clamping in the
vise.
