Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection uses radar and
camera technology to scan the roadway ahead and sounds a
warning if a collision with a vehicle or pedestrian is detected.
Uses information collected from a windshield-mounted camera
and radar located near the front bumper
If a collision risk with a vehicle or pedestrian is detected, the

system provides a warning to the driver
If the driver does not respond in time, the system can
‒
automatically apply up to full braking force to help reduce
the severity or possibly prevent some frontal collisions
Included with adaptive cruise control
Pre-Collision Assist
May help drivers avoid rear-end collisions with other vehicles at
all speeds
System can warn the driver if it detects the possibility of a
collision
If the driver does not react, the system pre-fills the brakes, then starts braking to help slow the vehicle
Vehicle will drop 30 mph below the current speed
For example, if the vehicle is traveling 35 mph, the vehicle will slow to 5 mph

Uses distance indication, distance alert and active braking
Distance indication — continuously displays the distance to the vehicle in front and illuminates a traffic light system of colored icons

depending on driver-selected proximity settings
Distance alert — alerts the driver with a red warning symbol if the vehicle being driven is too close to the vehicle in front

Automatic Emergency Braking — is engaged when traveling at speeds of over 30 mph

Pedestrian Detection
Can help the driver avoid pedestrians at lower speeds
Designed to work in daylight and at night, the feature can detect people in or near the road ahead or pedestrians crossing the vehicle path
The system can then check information against a database of pedestrian shapes to help distinguish people from common roadside scenery
and objects
If a pedestrian is detected in front of the vehicle and a collision is imminent, the driver first receives an audible and visual warning
If the driver does not respond, the system can improve braking responsiveness by reducing the gap between the brake pads and discs
If there is still no response from the driver, the brakes can be applied automatically and vehicle speed is reduced
NOTE: Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver's attention, judgment and the need to control the vehicle. Pre-Collision Assist
with Pedestrian Detection can detect pedestrians, but not in all conditions and does not replace safe driving. See owner's manual for system
limitations.
