4. From the pop-up menu, select the file on the AlphaSmart
where you would like to send the text. Press the Send
Text To AlphaSmart button to transfer the text from
the PC to the AlphaSmart. The Clipboard text is sent to
the file that you selected on the AlphaSmart. You may
now disconnect your AlphaSmart by either pressing the
esc key on the AlphaSmart or simply taking it away from
the PC.
To download to other AlphaSmarts, it is not necessary to
quit Get Utility and rerun it—just return to Step 3.
IR Get Utility Controls
• Send text to AlphaSmart: This button initiates the sending
of data to the AlphaSmart.
• Fetch file to Clipboard: This button initiates the sending of
data from the AlphaSmart to the PC.
• AlphaSmart file #: _: This pop-up menu allows the user to
change the current file on the AlphaSmart.
• Auto Send on Detect: If this check box is checked, the
AlphaSmart will automatically send its current file to the
PC when it is detected by the PC. If your word processor is
running in the foreground the file will also be automati-
cally pasted into it.

TurboTransfer Software provides a simple way to speed up
the data transfer rate between your AlphaSmart and your
Macintosh. Typically, you should notice your transfer speed
increase by six times when using TurboTransfer Software.
You can download the upgrades (at no cost) from the Support
Section of our home page at http://www.alphasmart.com.
Installation
1. Drag the Extension titled "TurboTransfer 1.2" from the
TurboTransfer software disk into the System folder on your
Macintosh.

2. System 7 users will see the following message:
Extensions need to be stored in the Extensions folder in order to
be available to the Macintosh. Put "TurboTransfer 1.x" into
the Extensions folder?
Click the "OK" button. If you are a System 6.x user, treat
this as an INIT file and place it in your System folder.
3. Restart the Macintosh with the AlphaSmart disconnected
in order to load the extension. Now you are ready to
download at turbo speeds!
To deactivate this extension, simply drag it out of the Exten-
sions folder (within the System folder) onto the desktop and
restart the computer.
TurboTransfer works by reading the file into the Macintosh
Clipboard and then issuing a paste command. Wherever the
cursor is when the Send key is pressed is where the file will
be pasted. (Since the Macintosh Clipboard can only have
one item residing at a time, whatever was in the Clipboard
before the transfer will be lost, and the last transferred file
will now reside in the Clipboard.)
Word Processors
Try sending to different applications. Some applications will
transfer faster than others. For example: Sending a 10K or
five-page file to MacWrite II, AppleWorks or SimpleText takes
only 55 seconds. But transferring the same file to MSWorks
takes five minutes (one minute to transfer, four minutes to
paste into the application).
Spreadsheets
TurboTransfer lets you directly transfer columns and rows of
numbers into spreadsheet applications. Simply put the cursor
in the upper left-most cell in the file (or wherever you would
like to start) and press the Send key. Make sure your num-
bers or other items are separated by tabs (shown by a right
arrow) on the AlphaSmart.
Note: Without TurboTransfer installed on the Mac, you may need
to transfer the data to a word processing application first, then cut
and paste the information into a spreadsheet program.
