HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)
®
High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI ) is a high-speed digital interface that can transmit
uncompressed high definition video and digital multichannel audio. It delivers high quality
®
picture and sound quality. HDMI is fully backward compatible with DVI. As required by the
® ®
HDMI standard, connecting to HDMI or DVI products without HDCP (High bandwidth
Digital Content Protection) will result in no Video or Audio output.
Hub
A device used for connecting multiple device to the network.
IP Address
A set of numbers which are assigned to devices participating in a computer network.
JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
A very common digital still picture format. A still-picture data compression system proposed by
the Joint Photographic Expert Group, which features small decrease in image quality in spite of
its high compression ratio. Files are recognized by their file extension .jpg or .jpeg.
LAN (Local Area Network)
A group of linked devices in a company, school or home. Indicates the boundaries of a particular
network.
Local Storage
This storage area is used as destination for storing additional contents from BD-Live™ enabled
Blu-ray Disc™-Video.
MP3 (MPEG audio layer 3)
A file format with a sound data compression system. MP3 is the abbreviation of Motion Picture
Experts Group 1 (or MPEG-1) Audio Layer 3. With the MP3 format, one CD-R or CD-RW can
contain about 10 times more data than a regular CD.
PBC
Playback Control. A system where you navigate through a Video CD/Super VCD with on-screen
menus that are recorded onto the disc. You can enjoy interactive playback and search.
PCM (Pulse Code Modulation)
The most common system of encoding digital audio, found on CD and DAT. Excellent quality
®
that requires a lot of data compared to formats such as Dolby Digital and MPEG audio. For
compatibility with digital audio recorders (CD, MD and DAT) and AV amplifiers with digital
inputs, this unit can convert Dolby Digital, DTS, and MPEG audio to PCM.
Region Code
A system that allows discs to be played only in the region designated. This unit only plays discs
that have compatible region codes. You can find the region code of your unit on the product label.
Some discs are compatible with more than one region (or ALL regions).
Router
A networking device which distinguishes the IP address assigned to each device and routing and
forwarding information in the computer network.
Sampling Frequency
The rate which sound is measured by a specified interval to turn into digital audio data. The
numbers of sampling in one second defines as sampling frequency. The higher the rate, the better
the sound quality.
Title
A collection of chapters on Blu-ray™ Video or DVD-video.
x.v.Color
"x.v.Color" is a promotion name given to the products that have the capability to realize a wide
color space based on the xvYCC specifications and is a trademark of Sony Corporation.
