Analog audio – The sounds that we hear with our
ears, unlike digital audio that is encoded as bits of
information.
Aspect ratio – An expression for the width of the
picture relative to the height. For example, if the aspect
ratio is 4:3 (considered a normal screen), the shape of
that picture is 4 units wide by 3 units high. The
standard TV aspect ratios are 4:3 and 16:9 (called
widescreen).

CD – The abbreviation for a compact disc that stores
digitally encoded music that is read by the laser beam
in a compact disc player. This provides high-quality
playback.
Chapter – A main division of contents in a DVD title.
Coaxial cable – Can carry digital audio signals
between a source device and the 3•2•1
Component video – Also called YPbPr for its three-
part video signals that include luminance and two color
signals. Component video requires the use of a
Component cable. This provides considerably better
resolution than is possible from either Composite or
S-Video signals.
Composite video – The simplest of video signals,
which combines black and white with color information.
Its low- resolution signal is compatible with the
broadest range of televisions and other video
components and requires a simple RCA video cable.
