TheCANbussystemisanevent-controlledbussystem.Dataistransmittedwhenaneventoccurs.
Astheseeventshavedifferentpriorities(e.g.ambienttemperaturehasalowerprioritythanaDSC
intervention,forexample),theprioritiesarealsosentinthebusmessage.Themessagewiththe
higherpriorityissentfirst.Asthecontrolunitstillwantstosendthemessagewhichhasthelower
priority,itfrequentlyresultsinoverloadinginthebussystems.
TheFlexRayworkswithso-called"timeslots".Withthismethodthemessagesaresentandarenot
controlledbyevents,buteachcontrolunitintheFlexRaynetworkisassignedafixedtimeslotinwhich
itsendsitsmessagewithinacertainperiod.Thistimeslotissynchronisedwitheveryrestartofthe
databus.ThecontrolunitswhichsynchronizetheFlexRayarealwayslabelledinthebusdiagramwith
a"S"(seechapter1.1).
TheFlexRaycanalsobesynchronisedwiththeBMWdiagnosissystemintheeventofafaultand
correspondingfaultcode.
