TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS
ENGINE WILL NOT START
Possible Cause
Battery discharged.
Fuse burnt out.
Fuel valve CLOSED or OFF
(If equipped).
Engine switch OFF.
Out of fuel.
Stale fuel; engine stored without
treating or draining gasoline, or
refueled with stale gasoline.
Spark plugs faulty, fouled, or
improperly gapped.
Spark plugs wet with fuel
(flooded engine).
Fuel filter restricted, FI system
malfunction, ignition
malfunction, valves stuck, etc.
ENGINE LACKS POWER
Possible Cause
Filter element(s) restricted.
Stale fuel; engine stored without
treating or draining gasoline, or
refueled with stale gasoline.

Correction
Recharge battery.
Replace fuse.
Move lever to OPEN or ON
position.
Turn engine switch to ON
position.
Refuel (p. 6).
Drain fuel tank (p. 10). Refuel
with fresh gasoline (p. 6).
Gap, or replace spark plugs
(p. 9).
Dry and reinstall spark plugs
(p. 9).
Take engine to your servicing
dealer, or refer to shop manual.
Correction
Clean or replace filter
element(s) (p. 8).
Drain fuel tank (p. 10). Refuel
with fresh gasoline (p. 6).

FUSE REPLACEMENT
The electric system circuit system is protected by a fuse. If the fuse
burns out, the electric system will not operate.
1. Remove the fuse cover, and inspect the fuse.

If the fuse is burnt out, pull out and discard the burnt-out
fuse. Install a new fuse.
Never use a fuse with a different rating from that specified.
Serious damage to the electrical system or a fire could result.
2. Reinstall the fuse cover.
Fuse failure usually indicates a short circuit or an overload in
the electrical system. If the fuse burns out, take the engine to
your servicing dealer for repair.
