Mulching the Clippings
Your machine comes from the factory ready to mulch the
grass and leaf clippings back into the lawn.
If the grass bag is on the machine, remove it (refer to
Removing the Grass Bag (page 11)) before mulching the
clippings. If the side-discharge chute is on the machine,
remove it and lock the side-discharge door (refer to
Removing the Side-discharge Chute (page 12)) before
mulching the clippings.
Important: The machine has a safety switch that
prevents you from starting the machine unless you
first install the mulch plug securely on the machine;

WARNING
The blade is sharp; contacting the blade can result
in serious personal injury.
Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop
before leaving the operating position.

2. Route the starter rope around the lower-rope guide
(Figure 20).
Note: The lower-rope guide releases the starter rope
when you pull the recoil-start handle.
3. Insert the grass-bag handle into the grooves at the top

Important: The machine has a safety switch that
prevents you from starting the machine unless you
