To select or change your Answer Mode

Press

until the FAX and FAX/TEL lights are lit for the answer mode you want.
Mode

(manual receive)
2. FAX
(automatic
receive)
3. FAX/TEL**
(Fax/Telephone)

* The lighted indicators mean
** In FAX/TEL mode you must set the Ring Delay and F/T Ring Time.
If you have extension phones on the line, keep the Ring Delay to 4 rings.

How it works
You control the
FAX
phone line and
must answer
FAX/TEL
every call
yourself.
The MFC
FAX
automatically
answers every
FAX/TEL
call as a fax.
FAX
MFC controls
the line by
answering every
FAX/TEL
call. If the call
is a fax it will
receive the fax.
If the call is not
a fax it will ring
(double ring)
for you to pick
up the call.
MFC answers
FAX
every call.
Messages (30
FAX/TEL
minutes or up to
85 pages) are
stored on a first
come, first
served basis.
The external
FAX
TAD answers
every call. Voice
FAX/TEL
messages are
stored on the
external TAD.
Fax messages
are printed.
= not selected
When to use it
Use this mode when
you are using a
computer modem on
the same line or if
you receive very
few fax messages.
You must use
this mode with
Distinctive Ringing.
For dedicated fax
lines. You cannot
receive a voice call
but you can call out.
You cannot have an
answering machine
on the same line,
even if it is on a
separate wall jack
on the same line.
You cannot use
the telephone
company's Voice
Mail in this mode.
Use this mode to
record voice and
fax messages in the
MFC's memory.
Select VOICE:ON
when you set
Message Storage.
Use this mode if you
have an external
answering machine
on your phone line.
Select VOICE:EXT
when you set
Message Storage.
