3M™ Breathe Easy™ PAPR with Butyl Rubber Hood and
RBE-57 – Battery Use and Maintenance
The PAPR may be used with a rechargeable nickel metal hydride battery or a
non-rechargeable lithium battery. You may wish to train with the nickel metal
hydride battery and then store the PAPR with the lithium battery so it is ready for
use when needed.
The lithium battery has a 10 year shelf life and approximately 12 hours of
capacity. The chart on the side of the battery should be used to mark the hours
of use. After 12 hours of use, refer to the user instructions for deactivation,
recycling or disposal.
1. The BC-210 Battery Charger and the BP-15 Battery:
The BC-210 battery charger provides a maintenance free charging system for the
BP-15 and can be used in the single mode or up to 10 units can be ganged
together. Make sure the charger is not plugged in while inserting the supporting
screw.
The BP-15 Battery is equipped with a red light that illuminates when the battery
needs to be charged. The battery will shut down in 15 minutes. When the red
light comes on you should leave the work area immediately and switch or
charge the battery.
a. After plugging the battery charger in, you will notice two LED
lights. One on the base charger and one on the charge adapter.
The base charger light should be a steady green light. If it is
yellow or red consult the trouble shooting guide in the user
instructions.
b. When the battery is attached to the BC-210 smart charger, the
light on the charge adapter should turn to a flashing green light.
This indicates that the battery is taking a charge.
c. If the LED is yellow the battery is either too warm or at a critical
voltage level. The charger is slowly bringing the charge up
while the battery cools down. Leave the battery on the charger
and it should turn to a rapid green flashing light when charger
senses the battery is ready for a fast charge.
d. When the battery reaches 90% charge the green LED will slow
down to a slow flash. The charger is 'topping off the battery'.
