Turns the power on and otf.
E] Cassette comparlment
Insert a cassene with the window side up and the satety
tab facing you.

MODE: Selects the counter indication in the display
window among lhe linear counter (tape running time),
absolute time, elapsed time of the selection, and total
remaining time ot the tape. Each time you press the
butlon, the indication changes sequentially.
RESET: Resets lhe linear counter to "0M 00S".
Eil Remote sensor
Receives the signal from the remote commander.
Esrlnr tD butons
AUTO: Press to turn on the AUTO indicator. When the
AUTO indicator is lit, the start lD will automatically be
written during recording. When the recording level
has been.below the fixed level for more than 3
seconds and then returns to the fixed level, the start
lD is written on the tape tor g seconds.
WRITE (MANUAL on the rernote commander): Press to
write the start lD at the desired point during recording
or playback. The WRITE indicator lights. The start lD
is written on the tape for 9 seconds trom the point
when the button is pressed.
ERASE: Press to erase a start lO, When a start lD and
a program number are written on the tape, both codes
are simultaneously erased by pressing this button.
RENUMBEB: Press to renumber the program numbers.
When only the start lOs are written, pressing this
butlon will insert program numbsrs. When this button
is pressed, th€ tape is rewound to the beginning
automatically and program numbers are assigned
kom "1" in numerical order.
E Muslc select buttons
Numerlc buttons (G9): In the record-pause mode,
press the desired button to designate the program
number you want to write tirst. Also designate the
desired program numb€r to be played back before
starting playback by pressing START.
CLEAR: Used to cancel the program number which has
been entered mistakenly.
ENO: Press to write th€ end lO on th€ tap€.
START/MUSIC SCAN: Press to start playback of the
selection designated by the numeric button. ln the
stop or playback mode, press to listen to the
beginning ot each selection successively (music
scan).
E sxtp tD buttons
WRITE: During recording or playback, press at the
beginning of lhe portion you want to skip later. The
SKIP lD and WRITE indicators light up for a moment
and the skip lD is writien tor 1 second.
EFASE: Press to erase a skip lD which is wrinen at th€
point iust b€fore the current position. The ERASE
indicator blinks while th€ tap€ is rewound, and lights
up while the skip lD is being erased.
ON/OFF: Set this button lo ON to skip during playback
the portion coded with a skip lD code. Set it to OFF
to play back the whole tap€ as it is.
E REC LEVEL (recordlng l€vel) controls
Adjust the recording level lor the analog input signals.
The outer knob controls the L (left) channel level and the
inner knob the R (righ$ channel level. The knobs can be
lurned together.
Whan recording digital signals, lhe recording level
cannot be adjusted.
E xeAopnONES lack and LEVEL controls
The LEVEL controls adjust the headphones volume
level.
@ fape operatlon buttons

(stop): Press to stop recording or playback.
> (play): Press to play back the tape.
K< >Dl AMS: Press to locate the beginning of the
selection during playback.
<< >> (rewlnd/revlew, tast-fotrard/cue): In lhe stop
mode, press to rewind/fast-fomard the tape. During
playback, press to rewind or fast-fonvard the tape
while listening to the sound.
O REC: Press ) while pressing this button to record.
ll PAUSE: Press to stop for a momenl during playback.
To restarl playback, press this button again.
ll the pause mode continues for about 10 minutes, it
will be released automatically and the deck will enter
the stop mode.
O REC MUTE (record mutlng): Inserts a sound-muted
portion (space).

Press when inserting or removing the cassette.
E txPUf selector
Set in accordance with the signal to be recorded.
ANALOG: For recording from the equipment connected
to the LINE lN jacks
DIGITAL: For recording from the equipment connected
to the DlcITAL lN jacks
ETIMER swltch
Normally set to OFF. Used to start recording or playback
at the desired time using a commercially
available audio
timer.
[4 CD SYNCHRO (CD synchronlzed recordlng) buttons
STANDBY: Press to set the unit in the record-slandby
mode.
START: Press to starl recording of the DAT deck and
then playback of the CD player.
STOP: Press to stop the DAI deck recording and the CD
player playback.
@ CD operatlon buttons
Operative only lor the Sony CD player equipped with a
remote comrnand€r.
ll (pause): Sets the CD player in the pause mode during
playback. Press again 1o release pause. lf pressed
twice when the player is in fhe stop mode, playback
slarls.
K< >)l (AMS): Press to locate the desired selection on
the Compact Disc during playback or in the stop
mode.
