English PRECAUTIONS Note on listening with the headphones • Listen at a moderate volume to avoid hearing damage. • Do not wear the headphones while driving or cycling. It may create a traffic hazard. • You should use extreme caution or temporarily discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations, such as walking, jogging, etc.
CHARGING THE English RECHARGEABLE BATTERY When using the rechargeable battery for the first time, charge it until the CHARGE lamp turns off. 1 Insert the rechargeable battery with the 0 and 9 marks correctly aligned. Charging will not start if the battery is not inserted first.
• Do not disassemble the battery, heat it or put it in water. • The supplied rechargeable battery can be recharged approximately 300 times. Using on dry-cell battery Use the 8B-HM3-953-11 dry-cell battery case (not supplied). On purchase and details, consult your nearest aiwa dealer.
PREPARATIONS English Connecting the headphones → A Connect the supplied headphones to the remote control and connect the remote control to the \ jack of the main unit. a The remote control can be clipped on your clothing, etc. with this clip on the back of the remote control.
BASIC OPERATION English 1 Load a disc with the label side a up and in the direction of the arrow b. Insert the disc completely until it clicks. 2 Press l/s. 3 Adjust the volume. To stop playback, press l/s. When playing the disc the next time, playback will start from that point.

English BASIC OPERATION Examples of the i / k button operation: ex. 1: If you press i while the unit is playing 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 the 45th track whose disc has 50 tracks, the beginning of the 5th track is located.
CHANGING THE DISPLAY English DISP Press DISPLAY repeatedly during playback. Each time the button is pressed, the display changes in the order as illustrated. a Title of current track b Number of current track c Remaining time of current track d Total number of tracks During group disc playback, total number of the current group is displayed.

VARIOUS FUNCTIONS English You can set a variety of functions the unit provides using MENU/ENTER, i/k, and r/t. 1 Press MENU/ENTER. 2 Press i/k to have a desired function displayed. MENU/ENTER Each time you press the button, the function to be displayed changes as follows: SEARCH? (Title search function)
English VARIOUS FUNCTIONS Selecting playback mode 1 While “PLAY MODE?” is on the display, press MENU/ENTER. “NORMAL?”(Normal play) appears. 2 Press i/k to have a desired playback mode displayed. Each time you slide the switch, the playback mode to be displayed changes as follows: a All-repeat play (REPEAT?) All tracks are played repeatedly.
English VARIOUS FUNCTIONS Programmed play You can memorize up to 25 tracks in a desired order. 1 While “PROGRAM?” is on the display, press MENU/ENTER. 2 Press r/t to have a desired track number displayed. 3 Press MENU/ENTER again to register the track.
English VARIOUS FUNCTIONS Title search function You can search for a desired track by the title during playback. 1 While “SEARCH?” is on the display, press MENU/ENTER. The track number flashes for about 10 seconds. 2 While the track number is flashing, press i /k to have a desired title displayed.
English VARIOUS FUNCTIONS Setting the alarm You can set the unit to alert you at a specified time. 1 While “ALARM?” is on the display, press MENU/ENTER twice. flashes and the remaining time before the alarm sounds appears. 2 While “SET?” is on the display, press MENU/ENTER.
English VARIOUS FUNCTIONS Canceling the beep sound (Signal sound function) → A Beep sounds are heard when you press an operation button. You can cancel this. 1 While “SETUP?” is on the display, press MENU/ENTER. 2 While “BEEP?” is on the display, press MENU/ENTER.

SENTENCE REPEAT English FUNCTION A phrase between blank sections longer than 0.5 seconds can be played back repeatedly. This function is recommended when listening to a disc for language practice. Set during stop mode MENU/ENTER 1 Press MENU/ENTER. 2 Press i/k to have “SENTENCE?” displayed.

English SENTENCE REPEAT FUNCTION 5 Press MENU/ENTER again to select the desired function. Follow the instructions under each settings. Notes • Sentence repeat function may not work correctly due to the recorded material of disc. • The power save function cannot be activated during sentence repeat playback.

English SENTENCE REPEAT FUNCTION Canceling the memorized disc to be played back with the Sentence repeat function 1 Press MENU/ENTER while “CLEAR?” is displayed. “COMPLETE” is displayed and the memorized disc is canceled. English SENTENCE REPEAT FUNCTION Display during Sentence repeat playback During automatic repeat playback → A When the unit detects a blank section, the phrase between the next blank section is played back repeatedly. When the beginning of the phrase is detected, c starts flashing.

English SENTENCE REPEAT FUNCTION Searching for a desired passage during Sentence repeat playback When you keep r or t pressed and release, repeat playback starts at that point. To stop playback Keep l/s pressed for 1 second.
ADDITIONAL English INFORMATION Using the picture holder You can display your favorite photo, etc. in the picture holder. 1 Hook your finger on the slit a, and then lift it to remove the cover in the direction of the arrow. 2 Set a picture into the holder, and then replace the cover.
MD GUIDE MESSAGES English BLANK DISC • Nothing is recorded on the disc. DISC ERROR • The disc is damaged by scratches. • The TOC (Table of contents) data is not registered correctly. EAR GUARD ! • You cannot increase the volume because of the EAR GUARD function.
TROUBLESHOOTING English GUIDE If the unit fails to perform as described in these Operating Instructions, check the following guide. Power does not turn on. • Load the battery correctly. • Connect the AC adaptor correctly. • Recharge the rechargeable battery. Operation does not start.
