What Every User Should Know

Press the RETURN key.
As each file is copied from the diskette in drive A to
the diskette in drive B, its file name is displayed on
the screen.
When the A> prompt is displayed, the backup is
complete.
The Difference Between DISKCOPY and COpy
Although both DISKCOPY and COpy backup your
diskettes, there is an important difference.
DISKCOPY copies a diskette from beginning to end
without regard to what is on the diskette. It produces
a mirror image of the original diskette.
COPY, when used with the
*.*
option, copies all the
files on a diskette file by file.
To illustrate what happens, consider a file named
REPORT.
If you add more information to REPORT, the file
needs more room on the diskette. DOS begins writing
REPORT on the diskette in the same space from
which it was read. However, since REPORT will no
longer fit in the same amount of space (the file is
larger than it used to be), the revised version of RE
PORT must be broken up on the diskette. Report is
written back onto the diskette in the original space
until the original space is full and then the remain
ing data is written in the next available space on the
diskette.
