Playing the Demo Songs
Use the following procedure to play the four built-in
demo songs:
1.
Hold down EXIT and press BANK 3.
2.
Turn the VALUE dial to select the song you wish
to hear, or select CHAIN PLAY to play all of the
songs sequentially.
3.
Press ENTER to begin playback.
4.
Press EXIT to halt playback.
5.
Press EXIT again to return to Play mode.
Selecting Patches
The XV-5050 has 1280 internal patches and can hold
over 2000 patches when it's fully expanded! The
patches are organized in categories such as Piano
(PNO), Mallet (MLT), Strings (STR), etc. Use the
following procedure to connect a MIDI controller to
the XV-5050 and to select and audition patches.
1.
Use a MIDI cable to connect the MIDI OUT of a
MIDI controller to the MIDI IN of the XV-5050.
2.
Press PATCH so it's lit.
3.
Press PATCH FINDER so it's lit. The current
category appears in the upper right-hand corner
of the display.
4.
Press the CURSOR 3 and/or 4 buttons to
select the desired category.
5.
Turn the VALUE dial to select a patch from
within the selected category. You can then:
Play the keyboard on your MIDI controller,
or
Press the VOLUME dial to play a short
preview of the selected patch.

Using the Favorites List
The favorites list allows you to tag as many as 64
commonly used patches for quick and easy access.
Use the following procedure to place a patch in your
favorites list:
1.
Select a patch as described in the previous
section.
2.
If PATCH FINDER's lit, press it once to turn it off.
3.
Press the VALUE dial to view the favorites list.
4.
Turn the VALUE dial to select an empty location.
5.
While holding SHIFT, press ENTER—the
currently selected patch is saved in your
favorites list.
6.
Press EXIT to return to the Patch Play screen.
Use the following procedure to recall a patch from the
favorites list:
1.
Press the VALUE dial to display the favorites list.
2.
Turn the VALUE dial to select the desired patch,
and then press ENTER.
Auditioning Rhythm Kits
Use the following procedure to try out the rhythm kits
in the XV-5050:
1.
While holding SHIFT, press PATCH/RHYTHM.
2.
Turn the VALUE dial to select a rhythm kit.
3.
Press the VOLUME knob to hear a
demonstration beat using the selected kit.
Note: Use Rhythm mode when you want to check out
or edit rhythm kits. When you wish to use a rhythm kit
with other sounds—such as when you're
sequencing—use Performance mode.
Selecting Effects
Use the following procedure to try out the different
effects in the XV-5050.
1.
Select the patch PRE-A 122: Rotary Gtr.
2.
Press EDIT.
3.
Press CURSOR 3 to move the cursor to the
upper left of the display.
4.
Turn VALUE dial to select PATCH: EFFECTS.
5.
Press CURSOR 4 once.
6.
Turn the VALUE dial to select Type:
7.
Press CURSOR 4 once.
8.
Turn the VALUE dial to select different MFX
types.
9.
Press VOLUME to preview your selection.
