    Your Phone Display Display Layout The display comprises three areas. Menu Area Description First line Displays various icons (see opposite). Middle lines Display messages, instructions and any information that you enter (number to be dialled, for example). Last line Shows the functions currently assigned to the two soft keys.

    Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the better the signal strength. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when a new text message has been received. Appears when you are out of your home a rea and have re g i s t e red with a diff e re n t network (when travelling in other countries, for example).

    Your Phone Backlight The display and keypad are illuminated by a backlight. When you press any key, the backlight illuminates. It turns off if no key is pressed within a given period of time, depending on the Backlight option set in the Phone Settings menu. The backlight remains on at all times when the phone is connected to a car kit (optional).

    Getting Started Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are p rovided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details (PIN, optional services available and so on). I m p o rt a n t ! The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending, so be careful when handling, i n s e rting or removing the card .

    Switching the Phone On/Off 1. Open the flip cover. 2. Hold down the second to switch the phone on. 3. If the phone asks for a password, key in the password and press the OK soft key. The password is factory set to 0000. For further details, see page 22.

    Getting Started Access Codes T h e re are several access codes that are used by your phone and its SIM card. These codes help you pro t e c t the phone against unauthorised use. When requested for any of the codes explained below, key in the appropriate code (displayed as asterisks) and press the OK soft key.
  • Page 23 The Personal Identification Number or PIN (4 to 8 digits) protects your SIM card against unauthorised use. It is usually supplied with the SIM card. If you enter an incorrect PIN three times in succession, the code is disabled and cannot be used until you re-enable it by entering the PUK (see below).

    General Functions Making a Call When the idle screen is displayed, key in the area code and phone number and press N o t e: If you have set the Auto Redial option (6 - 7) to O N (see page 77) and the person called does not answer or is already on the phone, the number is redialled automatically up to ten times.

Making a Call from the Phonebook You can store the names and phone numbers called regularly in the SIM card and phone memory, called the phonebook. You then simply select the required name to recall the associated number.

    General Functions Viewing Missed Calls If you are unable to answer a call for any reason, you can find out who was calling you, if this service is available. In this way, you can call the person back, if necessary. The number of missed calls is displayed on the idle screen immediately after the call was missed.

    P h o n e b o o k You can store phone numbers and their corresponding names in the memory of your SIM card. In addition, you can store up to 100 numbers and names in the phone memory. The SIM card and phone memories, although physically separate, are used as if they were a single entity, called the phonebook.

    P h o n e b o o k Copy This option allows you to copy a phonebook number to another location. Use this option to store a number similar to one already in memory; once copied, edit the number and store it in the phonebook.

Record the required name, by following the instructions given by your phone to enter the required telephone number and name. Voice Dial This option allows you to initiate a voice dial. Pronounce the required name as clearly as possible.

Switching the Microphone Off (Mute) You can temporarily switch your phone’s microphone off, so that the other party cannot hear you.

    Call Records Via this menu, you can view the phone calls: • Missed • Received • Made The number and name (if available) are given, together with the date and time at which the call was made. You can also view call times and costs. N o t e: The number of items in these lists depends on the capacity of your SIM card .

    Sound Settings You can use the Sound Settings feature to customise various settings, such as the: • Ringing tone, volume and type • Sounds made when you press a key, make an error or receive a message Ring Tone This option allows you to select the required ringing tone.

Vibra+Melody: the phone both rings and vibrates.     Network Services These menu functions are network services. Please contact your service provider to check their availability and subscribe to them, if you so wish. Call Diverting This network service enables incoming calls to be rerouted to the number that you specify. Example: You may wish to divert your business calls to a colleague while you are on holiday.

Your phone uses the networks in order of appearance in this list, provided that the network is available. When you select this option, the current preferred list is displayed if it already exists (see the procedure below).

CLIP (Calling Line Identification Presentation) / COLP (Connected Line Identification Presentation) If these network functions are active, the caller’s number is displayed during a call.
