    Basic Radio Operation Monitoring Conventional Modes To monitor conventional modes, do the following: Take the microphone off the radio’s hook. Press the preprogrammed Monitor button (S1, S2, S3, T2, or T3 as appropriate.) The dispatcher receives your radio ID in addition to the emergency message. An emergency call gives your radio priority over any other traffic on the channel.
