    Getting started About this User guide This is the Xperia™ XZ Premium User guide for the Android™ 8.0 software version. If you're not sure which software version your device is running, you can check it in the Settings menu. System and application updates can present the features in your device in another way than described in this User guide.

    It may take a while for the device to shut down. Why do I need a Google account? Your Xperia™ device from Sony runs on the Android™ platform developed by Google. A range of Google applications and services are available on your device when you purchase it, for example, Gmail™, Google Maps™, YouTube™...

    To change your screen lock type Find and tap Settings > Lock screen & security > Screen lock. Confirm your current screen lock, choose an option and follow the on-screen instructions. To create a screen lock pattern Find and tap Settings > Lock screen & security > Screen lock > Pattern. Draw your pattern, then tap CONTINUE.

    To unlock the device using your fingerprint • With the lock screen active, place your finger on the power key so that the device can scan your fingerprint and unlock the screen. Make sure that you use a finger that you have registered in Fingerprint Manager. If you fail to unlock the screen using your fingerprint after five attempts, you can use your backup pattern, PIN or password instead.

    SIM card protection You can lock and unlock each SIM card that you use in your device with a PIN (Personal Identification Number). When a SIM card is locked, the subscription linked to the card is protected against misuse, meaning that you have to enter a PIN every time you start your device.

    To view your IMEI number on the label strip Drag out the memory card tray and the SIM card tray. Drag the strip outwards using your fingernail. The strip displays the IMEI number. Finding a lost device using Find my device Google offers a location and security web service called Find my device.

And if you're not within range of a network, your device can determine your location using your mobile network.     Locking and unlocking the screen When your device is on and left idle for a set period of time, the screen dims to save battery power and locks automatically. This lock prevents unwanted actions on the touchscreen when you are not using it. When you buy your device, a basic screen swipe lock is already set.

    Your device has an embedded, rechargeable battery that can only be replaced by an authorised Sony repair centre. Never try to open or take apart the device yourself. Doing so can cause damage and void your warranty.

    Connect one end of the USB Type-C cable to the charger (or to the USB port of a computer). Connect the other end of the cable to the USB Type-C port on your device. The notification light illuminates when charging begins. When the device is fully charged, disconnect the cable from your device by pulling it straight outwards.

  • Page 82 Self-timer Use the Self-timer to get more time to prepare for a photo. It also helps to keep your device steady and avoid blurred photos.     Centre Determines the centre of the image, and sets the exposure based on the brightness of the object Spot Adjusts the exposure for a very small part of the object Touch Allows you to touch the screen to determine the object or area where exposure should be optimised Setting the right focus The camera automatically sets the focus and detects faces in all capturing modes.

    Taking photos and videos of people • Consider the camera orientation. Use portrait for close-up photos, to fill the frame. Use landscape for close-up group photos, or to capture an object in the background. • Place the camera on a solid surface and use the self-timer to prevent blurred photos.
  • Page 88 Capturing moving objects • Try not to follow the object. Instead, find a position where the object has to pass in front of you. • Consider changing the exposure to a faster shutter speed or a higher ISO to freeze motion.

    The Slow motion and Super slow motion settings are only available when slow motion is enabled. Super slow motion videos are limited to five seconds of play time. There are two ways to record Super slow motion videos. You can either record separate short videos in Super slow motion, or short sequences embedded within a video recorded at normal speed.

    Augmented reality AR effect is the augmented reality app that lets you apply fantastical worlds to your photos or videos. You can add smileys, paper puppets, dinosaurs and more. To take a photo or record a video with an AR effect When using the camera, swipe the screen to select and select a scene.
