Traction Control (Front-wheel
drive model only)
This feature limits wheelspin on slippery
surfaces. The system activates automat-
ically whenever you start your vehicle
and should be left on at all times. When
the system is operating, a Traction
Control light will illuminate in the instru-
ment panel. You may also hear or feel
the system working. This is normal.
If your vehicle becomes stuck and it is
necessary to "rock" the vehicle in order
to free it, you can temporarily turn off the
system by pressing the traction control
button located above the audio system
on the instrument panel.
See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.
Malfunction Indicator Lamp
(Check Engine Light)
Your vehicle is equipped with an On-
Board Diagnostics System (OBD II) that
monitors the fuel, ignition and emission
systems. OBD II helps ensure that your
vehicle's emissions remain at accept-
able levels. If a problem requiring ser-
vice occurs, a "Check Engine" light will
illuminate in the instrument cluster.
If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp is
flashing:
• When it is safe to do so, stop the
vehicle and turn the engine off.
• Wait 10 seconds and restart the
engine.
• If the light remains on steadily, see
the steps below. If the light continues
flashing, follow the previous steps
and see your dealer for service as
soon as possible.
If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp
remains on:
• If you recently refueled your vehicle,
remove and then reinstall the fuel
cap, making sure that it is tight (it will
make a ratcheting sound).
• A few driving trips with the cap prop-
erly attached should turn the light off
automatically.
See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.
