New chassis

Vito and Viano model vehicles have been given a new
chassis for even greater quality and comfort.
The primary development aim for the new suspension
tuning was to achieve greater customer orientation
and to more clearly differentiate between passenger
transport (crewbus/luxury MPV) and cargo transport
(panel van).
The good vehicle dynamics properties of the new
Vito/Viano have been augmented by an overall
improvement in ride comfort. Developers focused on
the following items in creating the new chassis:
Reconfiguration of the front axle transverse control
arm with guide and comfort bearing
Reconfiguration of the torsion bar connection to the
suspension strut (shift rail system)
New development: Suspension turret web based on
model series 204
New development: Rear-axle semi-trailing arm bear-
ings with separation of functions between lateral and
longitudinal forces
Optimization of the bearing volumes and of the
rigidity of all chassis bearings
Tuning of springs, auxiliary springs, shock absorbers
and stabilizers
Matching of axle settings and steering characteristic
