The first 12 ports of the Model 58000 switch can be configured to connect to
the 12 internal Ethernet segments of the System 5000 backplane. There is a
one-to-one mapping between port number and backplane segment number
(port one maps to segment one, port two maps to segment two, and so on) when
the ports are connected to the backplane.
Figure 1-3 shows the first 12 ports of the switch connected to the 12 internal
Ethernet segments of the Model 5000 backplane. Ports 13 through 16 are
connected directly to the switch fabric without connectivity to the backplane
segments.
