Cups Filled Unevenly

Cause:
Grinding grade and quantity variations in capsules.
1. Grinding grade variations in capsules. The grinding grade varies
depending on coffee type. Even with the same coffee type the grinding
grade of the ground coffee may vary slightly (tolerance). The grinding
grade affects how much water the ground coffee absorbs and how high
the pressure is in the brewing system; see Table 020-1.

Table 020-1: Grinding Grades

2. Varying quantities of ground coffee in the capsules (tolerance).
Remedy:
Make sure that the fill level corresponds to the type of coffee as shown in
Table 020-1 or use a different coffee capsule.
Cause:
Appliance not used for a long period of time. If the appliance is in operation
but is not used for a long time, some water in the flow-through heaters and
the connection tubes is released via the decompression vessel. This water is
then missing from the first cup.
Remedy:
Since machine no. 13/65387807, the silicone hose between the flow meter and
the coffee/hot water pump has been extended to 11.0 inches or 280 millimeters
(previously 4.3 inches or 110 millimeters) and laid in a loop. New silicone hose
part number 06060080 (includes instructions, mat. no. 06470570).
Note:
Units before machine no. 10/65365600 are prototype models and must not be
converted. These models must be scrapped.
1. Remove the appliance from its housing unit; see Section 010-4.1.
2. Remove the side walls.
3. Tip the appliance on its back.
Note:
The retaining screws are of different sizes. Note the positions of the longer
screws so that the housing does not get damaged during reassembly.
Ground Coffee Grinding Grade
Fine
Stronger types (Ristretto, Arpeggio)
High
High
Possibly less than programmed
With high system pressure a
backstroke of the pump may be
transferred to the flow meter which
then counts a quantity pulse even
though water has not flowed. This
can lead to the fill quantity in the cup
being less than that programmed.

Coarse
Weaker types (Volluto, Cosi)
Low
Low
Possibly more than
programmed
Possible when quantity
programming has been
carried out with a strong
type of coffee.
