    AUTOMOTIVE VIDEO RECORDER OVERVIEW The Uniden DC2 is an ultra-compact recorder that can be set up to continuously capture high quality video even in low light conditions. The built-in G-Sensor system triggers the camera to instantly begin recording if the vehicle is bumped or scraped. The DC2 can even record outside the vehicle for the duration of the internal battery’s power.     INSTALLATION AND POWER UP INSTALLATION SAFETY WARNINGS WARNING! Failure to comply with the following warnings could result in an accident or collision, resulting in death or serious injury. Do not obstruct the driver’s view or the operation of the vehicle itself. Do not place it unsecured on the dashboard or in front/above an airbag.

    UNLOCK position then lift the plastic flap on the base to release it from the windshield. INSTALLING THE MICROSD CARD A compatible microSD card (8GB supplied) is required to record and store videos and photos. The camera can support microSDHC cards (High Capacity microSD) up to 32GB in capacity. Uniden recommends using a good quality microSDHC card of at least 8GB capacity and minimum Class 10 speed. Gently insert a formatted microSD card in the slot on the side of the camera. To remove the card from the slot, press the edge of the microSD card inwards for it to pop out and then pull it out of the slot. POWERING UP THE DC2 Only use the DC car adapter that comes with your device.

    off for more than three weeks. At other times, press the button to turn it on. Press and hold the button to turn it off. The camera charges the battery whenever power is detected through the USB port. When the camera is being charged, the red LED glows. It will automatically turn blue when the camera has been charged completely. The camera takes about 90 minutes to charge completely from an empty state. The Battery Status icon displays when the camera is disconnected from power and tells you how full the battery is. Full Empty Half Full SETTING UP THE DC2 Before recording video or taking snapshots, set up how you want your DC2 to operate. Through mode menus, you can set the date and time stamp, turn audio recording on or off, set the image resolution, etc. The DC2 operates in three modes: Video, Still, and Playback. These modes have menus to help you configure your camera. Press to select a mode. An icon appears in the upper left corner of the screen for each mode.

    Video mode records videos to an installed microSD card. Still (Camera) mode stores snapshots to an installed microSD card. Playback mode replays video or shows snapshots saved to an installed microSD card. ► When you have selected the mode you want, press M to display the configuration menus for that mode. Each mode has two configuration menus. One menu configures that specific mode and the other menu (Setup) provides basic setup options. (The Setup menu, described on page 14, is common for all three modes.) Press M again to access the Setup menu. You cannot access menus when the the camera is recording. To access the Video menus, stop recording by pressing OK. VIDEO MODE Video mode lets you record live videos and store them on the installed microSD card. The configuration menu sets up how the video is recorded and conditions that will activate automatic recording.
  • Page 11 Setup menu is common to all modes and is described on page 14. Press ▲ and ▼ to scroll through the various settings and then press OK to select. Press M to exit the menu. Option Description Resolution Sets the video resolution. (Maximum resolution = 1080FHD) Loop Loop recording allows you to set video Recording file length (1, 3, or 5 minutes). Selecting a file length activates loop recording. When the microSD card fills up, it loops back to the oldest file and records over it. If you select OFF, video file length defaults to 3 minutes. When the microSD card fills up, a Card Full message displays and recording stops. Exposure Sets the brightness sensitivity. Motion Enable this setting to allow the recorder Detection to start recording when it detects movement.

    Option Description Record Turns audio recording on/off. Audio G-Sensor Detects significant or sudden movement; automatically locks the current recording. Date Stamp Displays or hides the date / time stamp on the recordings. Monitor Turn on for the camera to monitor motion Parking sensitivity when the car is parked. Parking Set motion sensitivity level (High, Sensitivity Medium, or Low) to activate video recording with Monitor Parking turned ON. STILL MODE The DC2 lets you take still images (snapshots) of live video that is not recording. You cannot take a snapshot of live video while it is recording. You also cannot take a snapshot of recorded video playing back.

    To take a snapshot: Verify that a valid microSD card is inserted in the microSD slot. Press to select Still mode; displays in the upper left corner. Press OK. The camera takes a snapshot of live video. Still Mode Menu Like the Video mode menu, press M once to access the Still mode configuration menu. Press it twice to display the Setup menu. The Setup menu is common to all modes and is described on page 14. Option Description Resolution Defines the image resolution. Continuous Activates continuous shooting mode; you Mode get up to 3 shots in one click. Quality Defines the quality of the images you capture.     Option Description Increases or decreases the camera’s light sensitivity. Exposure Sets the brightness sensitivity. Anti-Shaking Reduces the camera shake and captures a better quality image. HDR Turn video/snapshot header on or off. (Header) Date Stamp Enables/disables the date and time on the image files. PLAYBACK MODE This mode lets you play back recorded video or view snapshots. (Video) or (snapshot) displays, depending on what was last recorded. The Playback mode menu deletes or protects files from deletion; it does not provide any camera configuration. See page 18 for details on using this feature. SETUP MENU The Setup menu is common to all modes. It establishes overall camera operation.   • Page 15 before it goes into screensaver mode, etc. Press M twice to access the Setup menu in any mode. The icon is highlighted in the upper left corner. Option Description Date/Time Changes the date and time by using the relevant ▲ and ▼ keys, and then press OK to confirm. Car/Driver Provides a way to identify the vehicle in which the device is mounted (up to 8 alphanumeric characters). (See page 16 for details.) Auto Power Sets the time duration to automatically power off the camera when idle. Key Click Turn this feature on to hear an audible Sound clicking sound when the keys are pressed. Language Select English (default), French, Spanish, or Portuguese. TV Mode Select from NTSC (North America) or PAL (Europe).

    Option Description Frequency Select 50Hz or 60Hz (default) and press OK. Screen Sets the time to automatically turn off the Saver LCD after the recording starts. IR LED Turns the IR LEDs on and off. Format Formats the microSD card. Default Returns all the settings back to the Setting factory defaults. Firmware Firmware Version Version CAR/DRIVER ID PROCEDURE This menu option lets you enter the license number or any other identifier (up to 8 alphanumeric characters) to label the vehicle in which the device is mounted. This feature is useful if the device is shared between vehicles and video needs to be linked to a specific vehicle or if you are monitoring multiple devices among several vehicles.
  • Page 17 If recording, press OK to stop. Press M twice to enter the Setup menu. Scroll to Car/Driver ID option. Press OK to select it. The Car Driver ID character selector displays on the screen. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll through the character options. Character options are blank, 0 - 9, and A - Z (capital letters). Press OK to select that character and move to the next position. The selector moves to the next space. Continue selecting characters. Default = UNIDEN Press OK after you complete the entry to return to the Setup Menu. The identifier displays after the date/time stamp when the video is played back. To change a character: Press OK repeatedly to cycle through the characters to reach the character to change. Change the character using ▲ or ▼ and then press OK to select the new character. Press OK again to return to the Setup Menu when the entry is complete. To remove a character: Press OK repeatedly to cycle through the characters to reach the character to delete. Use ▲ or ▼ to select a blank character and press OK. You will now have a blank character in that spot. Press OK again to return to the Setup Menu when the entry is...

    USING THE DC2 RECORD VIDEO When connected to a car charger, the camera automatically goes into Record mode and starts recording when you start the car. The icon displays on the screen with a flashing red dot beside it to indicate recording is in progress. If the camera is not recording, press OK to start recording. A flashing red dot appears next to the icon. To stop recording, press OK and the red dot disappears, indicating that the recording has stopped. Inserting or removing the microSD card when the camera is recording causes the camera to shut down. SAVE CURRENT RECORDING You can save the file currently recording so it will not be overwritten if the microSD gets full. While recording, press ; the icon appears on the screen. This indicates that the recording has been locked and will not be overwritten by new...

    Replay Video Files When a video file is next to play, displays in the upper left corner of the screen. A set of 4 control icons displays on the bottom of the screen. These icons correspond to each key and control video playback. Reverse Play/Pause (up to 8X) No function during Fast Forward video playback. (up to 8X) When video o , change mode. Use the control keys to fast forward, reverse, or pause the video. When fast forwarding, press the reverse key (in reverse, press the fast forward key) to return to regular playback mode.

    Press to select Playback mode. Scroll up or down until the file you want to manage displays; press M to display the Playback menu options. • Delete. Delete the current file displayed or delete all files. • Protect. Lock/unlock the current file displayed or lock/unlock all files. Once you select either Delete or Protect, a series of confirmation screens displays. After you have gone through the screens and deleted or protected/ unprotected the file(s) you want, the camera returns to the Playback mode menu. Press M to return to Playback mode; scroll up or down to select another file to manage. If you cannot delete videos or snapshots, check to see if that specific file is protected.     When the camera is detected on the PC as an external drive, select to view the DCIM folder. Click on the DCIM folder to open and view recordings/images arranged in folders according to the specified date. The locked/protected recordings have file names beginning with “SOS,” thus enabling you to easily distinguish them from the rest of the recordings. PC Camera This options allows you to use the DC2 as a webcam. CONNECT TO TELEVISION You can connect the DC2 to an HD television set and play files on the television screen. Power off the DC2. Connect the HDMI cable to an HD television and then to the DC2. Power the DC2 back on. The television screen displays the DC2 screen and the DC2 screen is blank. Operate the DC2 as normal, viewing video through the television. To disconnect from the television, power down the DC2 first, then disconnect the HDMI cable.
