I HOLD
This function causes the unit to ignore accidental button presses.
Set to HOLD so the unit doesn't power on accidentally or play is interrupted.
The unit and remote control each have independent HOLD switches.
I X2 recording mode
Main unit only: Before playing or recording, press [PRESET, TAPE MODE] and then press [2, TAPE/7
Recording
" X2 " : Long play (Doubles the recording time, e. g., 120 min. on a 60 min. tape)
" " : Normal recording
Playback
Use the same mode when playing the tape.
I Changing the Tone
Remote control only: Press [SOUND/
" " : Canceled.
"S-XBS" : Boots the bass.
"TRAIN" : Reduces sound leaks and listening fatigue.
Playing a tape
I Listening to a tape (Page:3)
I Fast forward and rewind
While stopped
Main unit: Press [–/REW, 4, % NR] or [+/FF, 5, 1REP].
Remote control: Press [–/REW] or [+/FF].
I Quick skip
Skip about 10 seconds, backward or forward.
During play
Main unit: Press and hold [–/REW, 4, %NR] or [+/FF, 5, 1REP].
Remote control: Press and hold [–/REW] or [+/FF].
I Finding the start of the song (TPS)
You can skip songs (up to 9) each time the button is pressed.
During play
Main unit: Press [–/REW, 4, % NR] or [+/FF, 5, 1REP].
Remote control: Press [–/REW] or [+/FF].
I Change side
During play
Main unit: Press [2, TAPE/7 X2 ].
Remote control: Press and hold [7/g].
I Reverse mode
Main unit only: Press [PRESET, TAPE MODE] and then press [1, RADIO ON/BAND, REV MODE].
Each time this operation is repeated, the display change as follows.
" " : One side is played.
" " : Both the forward and the reverse sides are played once.
I Blank control
Reduces noise between tracks during play by fast forwarding when there is more than 13 seconds of null sound.
Main unit only: Press [PRESET, TAPE MODE] and then press [OFF/g/
display " BLANK ".
I To listen to a tape recorded with Dolby B NR
Main unit only: Press [PRESET, TAPE MODE] and then press [–/REW, 4, % NR] during playback to
display "% NR".

I Repeating a song (One-repeat function)
Main unit only: Press [PRESET, TAPE MODE] and then press [+/FF, 1, REP] during playback to
display "REP". To cancel, do the same as above.
Radio
I Listening to the radio (Page:4)
I Presetting stations
You can store each station separately as follows. (Total: 30 stations) AM: 1-10 FM: 1-10 TV: 1-10
1–5ch
1. Preparation: Tune in the radio station
2. To memorize channels 1-5, press [PRESET, TAPE MODE] once."
3. Press and hold [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] (Memory button). Three beeps can be heard.
6–10ch
1. Preparation: Tune in the radio station
2. To memorize channels 6-10, press [PRESET, TAPE MODE] twice."
3. Press and hold [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] (Memory button). Three beeps can be heard.
To recall a preset station
Main unit: Perform steps 1, 2 indicated above ⇒ for step 3 above press the memory button.
Remote control: Press [–/REW] or [+/FF].
I Adjusting the antenna
AM: Try various directions to obtain optimum reception. FM: Extend the earphone cord.
I Selecting FM monaural
Set [FM MODE/B.P.] to [MONO].
The sound becomes monaural, but noise heard when receiving a FM signal is reduced.
I For overseas use
Select the allocation setting according to your area.
Preparation: Tune a radio station
1. Press and hold [1, RADIO ON/BAND, REV MODE] until the step indicator appears.
2. While the step indicator is displayed, press [–/REW, 4, % NR] or [+/FF, 5, 1REP] and select the step.
J: for Japan E: for Europe, etc. U: for U.S.A., etc.
3. While the step indicator is displayed, press and hold [PRESET, TAPE MODE] until a beep sound is heard.
Changing allocation settings erases the stations stored in the memory.
Recording
I Recording from the stereo microphone (Page:5)
" " : One side only records.
" " : Both sides record. (Forward → Reverse)
Recording the radio (Page:5)
Remove the stereo microphone ⇒ Perform X2 recording and reverse mode settings ⇒ tune the radio
station ⇒ perform step 2
Connect the stereo earphones and listen to the sound during recording.
The recording level is not affected by adjusting the volume.
I Pausing the recording
While recording
Main unit: Slide [ REC , -PAUSE].
Remote control: Press [REC].
To resume the recording, do the same as above.
I Beat proof function
When an AM broadcast is recorded, [FM MODE/B.P.] can be used to reduce unwanted "beat" signals
(whistle) which are sometimes present.
Set the selector to whichever position best reduces these "beat" signals.
I Record time counter
Remote control only: Press [SOUND/
Displayed in 1minute units from 0 to 239.
Each time the button is pressed Counter indicator ⇔ Recording indicator
To reset the counter, press and hold [SOUND/
