    About Your Documentation To set up your printer and install its software, see the Start Here sheet. This book contains instructions on loading paper, printing with Windows and ® Macintosh, printing borderless photos, printing on CDs and DVDs, direct printing from a digital camera or camera phone, maintaining your printer, and solving basic problems.

    For the best results, you’ll want to use one of Epson’s special ink jet papers designed for your printer. For guidelines, see page 10. 1. Open the paper support and slide out its extensions.

    You can achieve good results with most types of plain bond paper. Coated papers, however, provide superior printouts because they absorb less ink. Epson provides special papers that are formulated for the ink used in Epson ink jet printers and recommends these papers to ensure high-quality results.

    Your printer includes a special tray that lets you print customized text, graphics, and photos directly on any ink jet-printable CD or DVD. The Epson Print CD software makes it easy to import your own photos, add text, and modify your designs with a variety of special effects.

    Inserting a CD or DVD Make sure the data, music, or video is burned on your ink jet-printable CDs or DVDs before you print. Otherwise, dirt or scratches on the surface may cause errors when you burn the data. 1. Turn on your printer. Note: Before you insert a CD or DVD, make sure the printer is turned on.

    Replacing an Ink Cartridge When the red H ink light flashes, one or more ink cartridges are low on ink. When the red H ink light stays on, you need to replace one or more cartridges. Ink Cartridge Precautions Warning: Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children and do not drink the ink.

    Leave the expended cartridge installed until you have obtained a replacement, or the ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out. To ensure good results, use genuine Epson ink cartridges and do not refill them. Other products may cause damage to your printer not covered by Epson’s warranty.
  • Page 50 If one of the cartridges is low or expended, the print head moves that cartridge to the _ mark. Go to step 5. If no cartridges are low or expended, the cartridge holder moves directly to the ink cartridge replacement position. Go to step 6. Caution: To avoid damaging the printer, never move the print head by hand.

Warning: If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water.

Caution: You must remove the yellow tape from the cartridge before you install it; otherwise, print quality may decline or you may not be able to print.     If the print head stops moving or the printer stops making noise, but the green P power light is still flashing after 5 minutes, turn off the printer. If the light is still flashing when you turn it back on, contact Epson as described in “Where To Get Help” on page 71.

    If this happens, you can continue to print but Epson recommends that you stop and leave the printer on for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, turn the printer off and on and it should print at normal speed.
