    Memorex quality, reliability, features, bundled software, and reputation are the reasons why. Before you can start enjoying all the features and benefits of your new Memorex drive, please read this manual thoroughly. It is also a good idea to keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.

    Your new drive setting is configured as MASTER by default. Most users will connect their new DVD Recorder to the secondary E-IDE controller of their computer in which case there is no need to change the default setting. However, a jumper is provided on the rear panel of your new DVD Recorder drive to configure it to work in various situations.

    CS setting to the SLAVE setting. (You may have to reposition the drive to reach the middle SLAVE connector on the IDE ribbon cable). Leave the Memorex drive’s setting on MASTER and attach the drive to the last (master) connector on the IDE ribbon cable.
  • Page 7 Note 1: To install your new DVD Recorder, you need an empty drive bay. If you plan to use an existing drive bay currently occupied by a CD-ROM drive, you must first remove the driver software for that drive and then turn off your computer and remove the drive.

On most computers, the connectors are keyed in such a way that it is impossible to install this cable incorrectly. However, this may not be the case in your computer.

INCLUDED SOFTWARE Your Memorex Double-Layer DVD Recorder includes a CD-ROM disc that installs the com- prehensive Nero 6 software package offering easy and simple access to all the popular CD and DVD recording formats. This software allows you to create and copy digital audio, data, photo, and video programs on both CDs and DVDs.

    9.1. ABOUT THE FIRMWARE The “firmware” is a small piece of software built into the Memorex DVD recorder, and is used to control its basic operation. Since it resides in flash memory, it can be overwritten and updated.
