    Mixing valves are available at plumbing supply or hardware stores. See Figure 8. Valves for reducing point of use temperature by mixing cold and hot water are also available.     Combustion Air and Ventilation for Appliances Located in Unconfined Spaces UNCONFINED SPACE is space whose volume is not less than 50 cubic feet per 1,000 Btu per hour (4.8 m aggregate input rating of all appliances installed in that space. Rooms communicating directly with the space in which the appliances are installed, through openings not furnished with doors, are considered a part of the unconfined space.

    ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54. A sediment trap shall be installed as close to the inlet of the water heater as practical at the time of water heater installation. The sediment trap shall be either a tee fitting with a capped nipple in the bottom outlet or other device recognized as an effective sediment trap.

    Temperature Regulation Due to the nature of the typical gas water heater, the water temperature in certain situations may vary up to 30F° (16.7 C°) higher or lower at the point of use such as, bathtubs, showers, sink, etc. Any water heater’s intended purpose is to heat water. Hot water is needed for cleansing, cleaning, and sanitizing (bodies, dishes, clothing).

    Turn “OFF” the entire gas supply to the water heater. The high temperature Shut-off is built into the gas control valve. It is non-resettable.
