Chapter 2 System Utilities The manufacturer or the dealer already configures most systems. There is no need to run Setup when starting the computer unless you get a Run Setup message. The Setup program loads configuration values into the battery-backed nonvolatile memory called CMOS RAM.

Parameter Spread When the system clock generator pulses, the Spectrum extreme values of the pulse generate excess EMI. Enabling pulse spectrum spread modulation changes the extreme values from spikes to flat curves, thus reducing EMI. This benefit may in some case be outweighed by problems with timing-critical devices, such as a clock-sensitive SCSI device.
